37-Years-Owned 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Project
This 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was acquired by the current owner in 1987 and is in non-running condition following several decades of storage. The car is equipped with a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and it is finished in red over black leather. Additional equipment includes a black removable hardtop, a black soft top, 13″ steel wheels with hubcaps, driving lamps, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. This 190SL is now offered in California on dealer consignment with a clean Connecticut title.
The car came finished from the factory in Fire Engine Red (534) and was repainted following rust repairs and replacement of various body panels. Features include a removable black hardtop, a black soft top, a top boot, and driving lamps. The soft top requires replacement, and the seller notes areas of corrosion as well as evidence of the prior rust repair.
Steel 13″ wheels wear chrome trim rings, hubcaps, and 6.40/7.00 Dunlop SP4 and Vredestein tires. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension and rear swing axles with coil springs. The power-assisted drum brakes are inoperative.
The cabin features low-back bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as matching door panels and dashboard trim. Replacement gray carpets were installed some time ago, and amenities include rear seat pads, an analog clock, a passenger grab handle, a Blaupunkt radio, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 210-km/h speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 35k kilometers (~21k miles), which is not considered to be accurate. Approximately 1k miles were added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was factory rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque and is linked with a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. The engine is said to be frozen and has not run in several decades.

Chassis number 1210406500210 is shown above, and the sequence is listed as the VIN on the Connecticut title prepended by “WDB”.
