Buildings, specially the ones we use today can be construed as complicated machines. Optimizing their performance can ensure enhanced comfort for the inhabitants and reduce life cycle cost. Environmental Performance analysis and optimization can be applied in:

  1. Reducing Energy Loads and thus reducing annual energy cost and capital cost for HVAC systems

  2. Ensuring thermal comfort and air quality.

  3. Ensuring visual comfort and overall well being by designing for adequate Daylight and View to the outside.

This course is a brief introduction to the field of Computational Environmental Analysis. The course aims to teach the participants the basic concepts of environmental analysis using Do and Learn method. 

Learners would be taught to extract data from the climate file, and visualize and conceptualize the movement of the sun and perform radiation analysis. The participants would also be able to design parametric form and facades of buildings and find out optimized solutions leveraging radiation data.

His core competency lies in the use of Advanced Computational Technologies in designing Sustainable Built Environment. He is working at the intersections between Design, Data, and Sustainability. He has expertise in the field of design optimization, energy, and daylight analysis. He has been involved in various R&D projects in the field of environmental analysis and building performance. As a Green Building Consultant in Environmental Design Solutions, he has worked in many prestigious projects like Qatar Museum, Altmeyer Renovation Project, IIT Kanpur, etc. He is the computational design developer at Ramboll.

Aims and Objectives for the course

The course aims to be a beginner’s level course on Computational Building Performance. Learn the basics of designing with Sun and use computational tools to optimize their design decisions.


Framework of the course

The course aims to teach the basics of environmental analysis and how to incorporate them in their design workflow. The idea is to enable participants with tools with which they can take data-driven and informed design decisions for an energy efficient and High Performance Built Environment.

 

Methodology followed 

 The course uses Ladybug Tools (an environmental analysis plug-in for Grasshopper) for visualizing climate data and environmental analysis. The participants would be guided through parametric form-finding  to arrive at optimized form using environmental analysis data.

FAQ

  • Do I need to buy software to attend the course?

    You can get trial for Rhino for 90 days. All other plug-ins and software used in the course are open-source and free of cost.

  • Do I need to learn Grasshopper before the course?

    Knowledge of grasshopper is preferred but not mandatory.

  • If I cant attend live sessions how will I get answers to my queries?

    We have an elaborate discussion board where you can type/upload your queries and Ar Anurag will respond to them as soon as he can.
