Where to start

Check out the menu for getting started for more information about how to get into karting.

check out the FAQ’s page to get any questions answered.

Northern Nevada Kart Club is an organization that facilitates family centered races for all ages.. Although we do not rent gear or karts, there are contact on the local resources page that can help with race day. We strive to make all the events fun and family friendly. If you don’t have a kart or you don’t have gear there are resources that can help. Arrive and drive (from local businesses) is great for beginners wanting to try out the sport, or for those that want to race but don’t want the hassle of keeping a go kart. There are also existing members of the track that are more than willing to help out a new person. There are lots of used karts for sale that are great for beginners, or the casual racer. Check out the links below to get familiar with what it takes to race at NNKC.

Types of karts

There are many types of karts. Just like brands of cars the options for karts seem to be endless. The majority of karts come from overseas, but there are a few that are made in the USA. Some of the karts are also specific to the type of motor that is going to be used. Shifter karts require some extra features, and typically are a stiffer chassis to accommodate for the higher forces around the track.

The gear

The big piece of gear is the helmet. Full face 2010 snell or newer rated helmets are a must. Full protection in the form of a racing suit and gloves and footwear. A neck brace and chest protector can be used for further protection.

Classes and ages

There is both an age group and a motor package that works for everyone. Classes range from 5 years old in kid kart to 70+ in masters or Grand Masters. The motor packages range from 4 cycles that top out at 55 mph to Shifter-125 karts that top out at 90+ mph.

Local Resources

There are several resources in town that can help get you started. Used karts are abundant and new karts are always fun to get. There are several members of the club including the board members that are always willing to help and give advice.

How to become a member

Members get the flexibility of going to the track at any time to practice, and reduced race fees on race day. With a key to the track members can come and go as they please. A membership lasts for a full year and gives the member voting privileges and a chance to win the end of the year championship! Members also give back to the track in the form of service to maintain the track and keep it safe and fun for everyone.

Rules

Of course there are rules! Some of these rules are set by the club including a code of conduct and eligibility requirements for the end of the year awards. Some of the rules pertain to the engine packages and age requirements. Each class has a set of rules.
