We touched down at the North Pole for another year of Fantasy Flights, our merriest holiday tradition! Fantasy Flights partners with local nonprofits and hospitals at each of our stations (our domestic hubs and five additional airports including Tokyo-Narita, London Heathrow, Honolulu, Fort Lauderdale and Cleveland) to fly children and their loved ones to the North Pole (a special airport gate transformed into a winter wonderland by United team members). The children can take photos, meet Santa, and sing along to carols. “United is honored to uplift children and their families through the joy of the holiday season,” says Human Resources and Labor Relations EVP Kate Gebo. “Making the North Pole closer than ever is one of the many ways we can show support for the communities where we live, work and fly.” #GoodLeadsTheWay

An end of year message from our leader ⤵️

Congratulations to Sandra Kaspar for being named one of Crain's Chicago Business Notable Latino Leaders for 2024! Sandra has worked with international embassies to ensure Latino travelers made it home safely during the Covid-19 pandemic, supported accessibility improvements for travelers through her role as a board member in Bridge (our internal accessibility-focused business resource group) and partnered with agencies to promote accessible travel. We’re proud to see change makers like Sandra make a positive impact in and outside of United. Thank you, Sandra!

Coming soon – more sustainable aviation fuel at O’Hare! United will be purchasing 3 million gallons (and potentially up to 8 million gallons) of SAF from Phillips 66 for use at Chicago O’Hare – this agreement, combined with the deal we announced this July, makes our airline the biggest purchaser of SAF in Illinois! Thank you to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker for his efforts to expand tax credits for SAF in Illinois. Our commitment to grow the supply of SAF at our hometown hub and beyond is being made possible by teaming up with the state of Illinois, Phillips 66 and other industry leaders who’ve joined efforts like our Eco-Skies Alliance and UAV Sustainable Flight Fund.

Doreen Burse leads with strength, integrity, transparency, and resilience – and, for it, GBTA WINiT named her Outstanding Woman of the Year. With nearly four decades in the travel industry, Doreen has guided her teams with both resolve and compassion, landing her the top spot at WINiT’s annual awards gala. Beyond her day-to-day of leading the 500+ person worldwide sales team, Doreen champions those around her – especially women. She’s the executive sponsor of United’s Kinnect business resource group, a family-focused group dedicated to supporting caregivers; she’s an active member of uIMPACT, a business resource group dedicated to promoting diversity of talent and supporting women at United; and she volunteers as the business diversity ambassador of United’s Commercial team – ensuring United invests in a more diverse set of suppliers, including women-owned companies.
