Autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation is a critical treatment for #MultipleMyeloma, yet access remains unequal. In a new Medical College of Wisconsin study, blood cancer researchers reveal that Black patients are less likely to receive this lifesaving therapy compared to White patients, despite achieving better outcomes when access is equitable. Their findings, published in Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, highlight barriers such as delayed referrals, caregiver support, and health literacy, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted solutions to close the gap. Medical College of Wisconsin researchers are pioneering a new approach that brings immunotherapy to patients with aggressive breast cancers.🔬 Their latest study revealed that testing tumors for both PD-L1 and PD-L2 proteins could more accurately predict which patients are likely to respond to immunotherapy—a treatment still emerging in breast cancer care. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide. The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center has opened the phase 2 RadiaNCe Lung X trial, led by Dr. Jonathan Thompson, that evaluates if combining radiation with targeted drug therapy can delay cancer progression in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. This investigator-initiated trial takes a novel approach for patients with "driver mutations," genetic changes that speed cancer growth. By using radiation on the main lung tumor before targeted therapy, Dr. Thompson and the team hope to shrink the tumor and delay resistance.
