January is Glaucoma Awareness Month — a time to focus on preventing vision loss from this silent disease. Glaucoma often has no symptoms early on, so regular eye exams are key for early detection and treatment. And health professionals play an important role in educating patients and encouraging routine screenings, especially for those at higher risk. About us
The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) encourages all Americans to lead healthy and active lives. We accomplish this by establishing and promoting national public health priorities, translating science into policy, guidance, and tools, and working to improve health literacy and equitable access to clear and actionable health information. As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, ODPHP sets priorities for improving the nation’s health, provides science-based nutrition and physical activity guidance, and creates tools and resources to help people make healthy choices. Across our national health initiatives like Healthy People 2030, the Physical Activity Guidelines, the Move Your Way Campaign, and MyHealthfinder, we prioritize efforts to reduce health disparities, advance health equity, and improve the health of all people. By providing actionable tools and resources, we help people make healthy choices in their daily lives.
