About us

Central to our global purpose of delivering a better world, healthy water ecosystems are the bedrock of our economies and society. By servicing essential water and sanitation needs and protecting communities against the impacts of climate change, water infrastructure enables people and the planet to thrive. As the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, we understand both the urgency of the water challenges facing our society and our responsibility to respond in an impactful and enduring way. A faithful, long-term ally to clients and the communities that we’re a part of, we work across the entire project life cycle, from initial idea scoping through final construction and operations and maintenance services. We operate in areas of water scarcity, abundance and everywhere in between, constantly transferring knowledge and best practices to innovate around the globe. From digital offerings such as PipeInsights™, to our PFAS destruction technology DE-FLUORO™, the products and services we’ve created are helping to deliver efficient, sustainable and equitable water structures for all our clients. Well known for above-ground structures, we are equally as proud of the uncelebrated and unseen infrastructure serving everyday needs. The pipe networks we’ve delivered have been quietly serving community water and sanitation needs for over a century and could encircle the globe multiple times. Fundamental to the wellbeing of billions of people, these structures often go unnoticed thanks to seamless operation and maintenance. With a global repertoire that spans flood protection to nutrient control and desalination, we have the knowledge, skills and technologies to build, manage and maintain water infrastructure that is not only the best in the world, but best for the world.

  • How do you balance cost and risk in infrastructure rehabilitation? This complex question lies at the heart of 'The CIPP Quality Assurance Paradox,' a thought-provoking paper co-authored by #AECOM’s Chris Macey, which has just been honored with the prestigious 'NASTT 2024 Outstanding Paper – Rehabilitation' Award. The paper delves into the history of Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) technology, which has evolved significantly since its first installation in 1971. It highlights how industry standards, specifications, and quality assurance practices have not fully adapted to the growing body of research and the natural variability inherent in real-world installations. Chris and his co-author, Tony Araujo, expertly analyze the balance between risk mitigation and cost control in CIPP projects, drawing on five decades of research and statistical evidence to propose solutions for more informed quality assurance processes. This recognition reflects Chris' deep expertise, commitment to advancing the field, and ability to address practical challenges in infrastructure rehabilitation. Congratulations Chris! We’re proud to have been appointed to all four lots of the UK Environment Agency's (EA) major new Ecological Services Framework 4 (EcoSF4). Sponsored by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the EA is responsible for flood and waste management, regulating land and water pollution, and the protection and conservation of the environment throughout England. Our appointment will support the EA’s efforts across a wide range of programs aimed at restoring England’s rivers and wetlands, boosting natural flood management, and streamlining the passage of fish and other fauna through the country’s waterways. “We look forward to advancing the EA’s pressing restoration and ecological objectives across England’s waterways, leveraging the full scope of our capabilities as a single source environmental services provider,” said Frank Sweet, chief executive of our global Environment business.
