You, Your Teams, Your Organization, Your clients and COVID-19
As we sit in the middle of very uncertain times globally, businesses are taking measures to adapt and ensure the best safety measures for their employees with changes happening daily.
Along with providing a list of resources your team members can access from your HR, your local community and government that supports individual needs, I wish for and invite all organizations and their leaders to be proactive and include the means for team members to share their thoughts, concerns, feelings, and ideas about the virus and it's impact on them as individuals, the team and the organization as a whole. in a constructive, supportive and non judgmental way.
As a global teams coach, the importance of these conversations is crucial to increase the teams understanding, empathy and collaboration and better understand what support looks like for every individual, especially those who have been directly impacted.
Some ways you may want to administer these constructive conversations and systems of support can be;
- Create a shared document that asks the questions: What are the thoughts and feelings you are having about COVID-19? What has been the impact of this virus on you, your team, your family/friends? What seems to be the biggest challenge for you at this time? What support do you need during this time?
- Set up a virtual gathering on a consistent basis for those who are working remotely to ensure everyone a chance to connect with each other on this conversation and feel updated and included.
- Invite a professional team coach to facilitate a team conversation to allow access to greater shared learning, increase relationship building and bonding and include desired outcomes, team alliances and agreements that need to be completed inside these uncertain times.
There is a lot of emotion and as a result a lot of behaviour that comes from these escalated events. Increasing open and constructive communication in your organization allows for the team to best determine where it needs to focus day to day.
As we have seen that exercising precautions and deep care is crucial. Let us all be mindful that we are experiencing this in our own way and that by coming together, virtually or in person where possible, we can offer each other the support needed.
Your comments, suggestions and supportive ideas are welcomed to expand our way of being here together.
