The World Doesn’t Realize What’s Coming

The geopolitical and economic world order is poised to be disrupted by the emerging Global AI technology, catalyzed by the Global South-North divide, the BRICS-G7 competition, oligopolies, the regional geopolitical conflicts, as Ukraine/NATO- Russia war or Israel-Hamas war, and many other risks and threats.

Global AI is the techno-scientific foundation for Industry 5.0 and Industry 6.0 and beyond, Industry X.0, the disruptive transition from Industry 4.0 to a smart and creative, green and sustainable, human-centric and resilient intelligent industry.

Industry X.0 = Hyperintelligent Hyper-Automation of the Internet of Things, Web X.0, Cyber-physical systems, Autonomous Robots, Big Data, Additive Manufacturing, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Digital Technologies, Cyber Security, System Integration, Simulation, Smart Factories, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Quantum Technologies, Cloud and Edge Computing, Emerging Technologies, Green and Climate Technologies, Space Technologies, and Human Intelligence

Who Creates our Chaotic World?

Today's world is largely invented and governed by the oligopolies of big companies:

  1. Big Tech, American tech giants, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft and Meta plus Nvidia, Netflix and Tesla, AAAAMM + NNT, and Chinese digital copies, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, and Xiaomi, BATX.

They serve billions of users, and are able to influence user behavior and control large amounts of user data. The Big Nine are monopolized digital technology: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, consumer electronics, e-commerce, home automation, online advertising, self-driving cars, social networking, software, and streaming media. They are among the most valuable public companies, having had a maximum market capitalization up to 3+ trillion U.S. dollars.

2. Big Oil, China's Sinopec and the China National Petroleum Corporation, Saudi Aramco, ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, Eni, TotalEnergies, ConocoPhillips

3. Big Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited $6.118 Trillion; China Construction Bank;  Agricultural Bank of China; Bank of China; JPMorgan Chase; Bank of America; Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group

4. Big Investment banking, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and J.P. Morgan

5. Big Three Index Funds, BlackRock's iShares, with US$9.42 trillion in AUM, Vanguard), about $7.7 trillion in global assets under management, State Street, with US$3.9 trillion under management and US$43.3 trillion under custody and administration

5. Big Pharma, Pfizer Inc (US) – $100.3 billion. AbbVie Inc (US) – $58.00 billion. Johnson & Johnson (US) – $52.60 billion. Merck & Co., Inc (US) – $52.05 billion. Novartis International AG (Switzerland) – $50.54 billion.

6. Big Three (management consultancies),  McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company

7. Big Media, AT&T,  Comcast, The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Discovery, & Paramount Global

As of June 30, 2023, there were 4,071 commercial banks and 574 savings and loan associations in the U.S. insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) with US$23.5 trillion in assets. Just State Street, with US$3.9 trillion under management, has US$43.3 trillion under custody and administration. Meanwhile, by the end of 2023, the world economy is expected to have a gross domestic product (GDP) of $105 trillion, as to IMF.

No oligopoly really follows the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles, taking environmental issues, social issues and corporate governance issues into account for reaching the UN SDGs.

To be specific, no oligopoly has supported the I-World Initiative advanced by EIS Ltd for last 20+ years, which international and national and corporate projects combine smart and green, intelligent and sustainable policies and strategies, technologies and solutions.

The only exclusions are the big states, as Russia and China, and the transnational community of the EU.

Europe rebranded the Smart and Green I-Europe as the EUR1trillion E U R O P E 2 0 2 0 A European strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth

Russia rebranded the Green and Smart Russia proposals, Умная Революция в России: Russia Smart Green Superpower: Smart Russia™, I-Russia™, iRussia™ (Smart Green Russia™); Умная Россия™, Умная Зеленая Россия™, Интеллектуальная Россия™ as $360 Smart and Green Russia national projects. In compliance with President Vladimir Putin’s May Decree of 2018, National Projects in 12 areas have been worked out.

China has been struggling to rebrand its unsustainable One Belt-One Road OBOR [the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, or B&R] initiative by China’s President Xi Jinping into the Green Smart Belt.

“To be or not to be—that is the question”

To the oligopolist "greenwashing", spending significantly more resources on green PR, marketing and advertising than on environmentally sound practices, "AI brainwashing" has been added recently, claiming a product or service or platform employ AI technology when it does not.

The oligopolies are not willing to purchase and adopt or invest in real AI technology in the future. This relates both to how non-tech and tech oligopolies manipulate with human-mimicking AI, see the Supplement on AI Washing.

AI as "the simulation of human intelligence in machines, computing systems", has been commercialized for decades. Human-like generative AI, as LLMs platforms like ChatGPT, has driven increased attention for its ability to automatically create human-like content, mixed with bias, disinformation and misinformation.

The global AI market size is expected to reach USD 1,811.75 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 37.3% from 2023 to 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc.

PwC hopes that AI could contribute up to $15.7 trillion1 to the global economy in 2030, PwC’s Global Artificial Intelligence Study: Exploiting the AI Revolution.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says AI "will be the greatest technology humanity has yet developed". "This technology could help us elevate humanity by increasing abundance, turbocharging the global economy, and aiding in the discovery of new scientific knowledge that changes the limits of possibility".

Meanwhile, industrial leaders warn about "the risk of extinction from AI" in the Statement on AI Risk:

"Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war".

To be human-friendly and real intellectual, trustworthy and reliable, AI must be not human-like or human-level, but real and true.

It must be a real-world general-purpose technology, being of reality, truth and data, by reality, truth and data, from reality, truth and data, relying on the power of world knowledge, including scientific knowledge, algorithms and methods, see the Supplement.

With the fast developing Real AI ubiquitous hyper-automation, the chaotic world economy of the mentioned oligopolies would likely turn upside down overnight, while radical changes to social structures, political systems, and even international power dynamics would follow closely behind.

From Oligopolistic Economy to Creative Economy

According to Bill Gates, the rise of AI will ensure that a significant portion of the population will end up with skills that will no longer be in demand. Education must evolve towards improving individual perceptions and creativity. We need to think about how we can prepare individuals for the future, where AI can take over more and more tasks that humans used to do. We need to find ways to stay relevant, keep learning, and adapt to change. We need to teach skills that are complementary to what AI can do and prepare individuals for an ever-changing world.

[Bill Gates: People Don’t Realize What’s Coming, Somnath Shingh, Medium, April 13, 2023]

One way to do this is to embrace the creators’ economy, defined as a set of art, culture, design and innovation industries, and the economic contribution of those industries within a geographic region.

These industries are including advertising, architecture, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film, video, photography, music, performing arts, publishing, research and development, software, computer games, electronic publishing and TV/radio. NEW ECONOMICS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: CREATIVE ECONOMY

Inventions as the Drivers of Human Progression

Since the Agricultural Revolution and especially the First Industrial Revolution, the world has been driven by techno-scientific revolutions, inventions and innovations.

All in all, there are five kinds: socio-philosophical, scientific-technological, sociopolitical, humanistic, or cultural, and religious.

Socio-philosophical inventions, philosophy, metaphysics, logic, dialectics, idealism, materialism, utopia, anarchism, semiotics, phenomenology, behaviorism, positivism, pragmatism, and deconstruction. the Renaissance, neoclassicism, Romanticism, Symbolism, Aestheticism, Socialist Realism, Surrealism, postmodernism.

Scientific-technological inventions include science, technology and engineering, as electricity and magnetism, railroads, aviation, vaccination, antibiotics, astronautics, holography, the atomic bomb, computing, the Internet, the smartphone, artificial intelligence.

Sociopolitical inventions comprise new laws, institutions, and procedures that change modes of social behavior and establish new forms of human interaction and organization. Examples include the British Parliament, the US Constitution, the United Nations, the European Union, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as movements such as communism, socialism, capitalism, Zionism, suffragism, or feminism.

Humanistic inventions encompass culture in its entirety and are as transformative and important as any in the sciences. In the domain of linguistics, for example, many alphabets have been inventions. Literary inventions include the epic, tragedy, comedy, the novel, the sonnet, Among the inventions of artists and musicians are oil painting, printmaking, photography, cinema, musical tonality, atonality, jazz, rock, opera, and the symphony orchestra.

Religious inventions, religions, gods, theology, monotheism, pantheism, methodism, puritanism, deism, secularism, ecumenism, etc.

The Invention of Inventions, the Innovation of Innovations for the Industry X.0

AI is emerging as the only fundamental and universal invention and innovation underlying all the major inventions, including socio-political institutions and general purpose technologies, emerging technologies and digital technologies, thus affecting all parts of human life, all sectors and industries.

Humanity has experienced the evolution of industry from 1.0 to 6.0, the Industry 6.0 ecosystem "combines human intelligence, artificial intelligence, cloud computing energy, human–robot working big data, quantum", as pictured below:

Global AI is the techno-scientific foundation for Industry 5.0 and Industry 6.0 and beyond, the transition from Industry 4.0 to a smart and creative, green and sustainable, human-centric and resilient global AI industry.

Industry 6.0 is about hyperintelligent hyperautomation, combining human intelligence, artificial intelligence, cloud computing energy, human–robot working big data, smart quantum computing, and other emergent technologies.

It is an intelligent economy of fully integrated, intelligent manufacturing systems and automating factories, transforming entire industries through the integration of advanced technologies into totally intelligent manufacturing and unprecedented levels of customization.

Real AI Automation as the world-changing invention and innovation

For its long conception 2000+ years and short development lifetime of 70+ years, the idea of intelligence has passed many phases and stages to reach its true status of AI as machine intelligence and learning:

SUPPLEMENT ON AI WASHING

The hidden truths about ANNs, ML, DL, Generative AI and ChatGPT

AI Washing commonly means as what that announced in the Bloomberg press release: "Artificial Intelligence (AI) denotes the concept and development of computing systems capable of performing tasks customarily requiring human assistance, such as decision-making, speech recognition, visual perception, and language translation. AI uses algorithms to understand human speech, visually recognize objects, and process information".

Here are the hidden truths about today's commercial AI, overhyped as ANNs, ML, DL, Generative AI and ChatGPT:

The truth number 0. Artificial Neural Networks are Not Real AI, Not mimicking how the human brain works, or "learning" the rules, algorithms or models from finding patterns in historical data sets.

The truth number 1. ML is Not Real Artificial Intelligence, but predictive modeling, statistical classification algorithms and predictive data analytics.

The truth number 2. Deep Learning is Not Real Artificial Intelligence, but predictive modeling, statistical classification algorithms and predictive data analytics.

The truth number 3. Generative AI, combining various statistical algorithms to represent and process content as "hallucinating transformer NN models with attention mechanisms", is Not Real AI, but predictive modeling, statistical classification algorithms and predictive data analytics.

The truth number 4. LLMs, models with billions or even trillions of parameters, are Not Real AI, but predictive modeling, statistical classification algorithms and predictive data analytics.

The truth number 5. OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's BERT are Not Real AI, but predictive modeling, statistical classification algorithms and predictive data analytics.

"Norvig and Russell book -and other authors-, saying that machine learning is equivalent to artificial intelligence is grossly misleading. ML is a contributing discipline of AI, just like search, reasoning, planning, decision making, natural language processing, vision, and robotics.

For instance, ML by itself cannot be intelligent because lacks reasoning, planning, logic, and doesn’t interact with the environment. ML detects patterns and performs predictions based on statistical analysis of data using math based algorithms. These algorithms are not intelligent per se".

The recent buzz and overhype around generative AI, LLMs and ChatGPT have been driven by the simplicity of new user interfaces for creating deepfakes or digitally forged images or videos, text or graphics, audio, or simple coding in a semi-automatic mode.

The principal difference from Eliza, now its textual tokens or images are transformed into numerical vectors using multiple encoding techniques, while encoding the biases and prejudices, racism and deception, disinformation and puffery contained in the training data, non-legally web-scraped from the internet.

Real AI is about reality, of reality and by reality, with the real system architecture:

Real AI Technology (RAIT) = the environment (the real world, the internet, virtual reality, etc.) + reality modeling and simulation and interaction engine [perception (sensors, the internet of things, robotics) + knowing/conception/classification + inference/reasoning/decision making (GOFAI) + learning (ML&DL&ANNs) + actuation (actuators, robotics)] + the environment (the real world, the internet, virtual reality, etc.)

To our surprise, OECD Council on 8 November 2023 adopted the new definition of AI to be incorporated in the EU’s new AI rulebook, which is in line with our real AI approach:

“An AI system is a machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that [can] influence physical or virtual environments. Different AI systems vary in their levels of autonomy and adaptiveness after deployment,” reads the new definition.
