Why we're celebrating giving to charity this #SmallCharityWeek
Charitable giving has a proud tradition in the UK. Around two-thirds of us give to charity and we’re consistently in the top ten countries across the world for donating money.
Giving to charity is especially important right now.
Small charities
The UK charity sector is rich and diverse - powered by volunteers and funded by your generous support.
Small charities are one of the largest, yet often overlooked, parts of civil society.
Did you know:
- The majority of charities (80%) are considered ‘small’ (with an income of less than £100,000)
- A notable amount (38%) have an income of less than £5,000
- The combined income of small charities accounts for a small amount (4%) of the total income generated by the charity sector
- Small charities predominantly work locally and contribute to the social fabric of our communities
Wherever you live, there will be small charities doing amazing work, often under the radar, to improve the lives of people and communities across the country and world.
Small Charity Week
Small Charity Week raises the profile of small charities and the contribution they make.
If there’s a local cause or small charity you care about, and you’re able to, please think about whether you can support them by donating money, goods or time.
If you are a taxpayer and giving a donation or regular gift, you can Gift Aid your donation which will increase its value by an extra 25 percent.
