Want to Find Success? Take a Vacation

We’ve all heard the idea that you can find success in the most unlikely of places, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a science to that sentiment. Running an apartment investing company that manages nearly 4,000 units is a round-the-clock vocation, but sometimes (and especially in a year like 2020) getting away could be the best thing you can do in your pursuit of success.

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who would tell you that 2020 has not been a difficult year. From economic crisis to a global pandemic, there has been a lot to feel stressed out about, and the nature of the problem has kept many of us cooped up in our homes. Last month, I decided to end the streak. I booked a flight to Disney for me and my boys and spent a weekend touring “the magic kingdom.”

Having that weekend to step away from Houston and simply relax and spend quality time with my boys was a magical experience. A mere three days away from the grindstone and stress of current circumstances left me energized and ready to WORK once I returned. Sometimes a step back is the best thing you can do, and you don’t have to be stalled out in order to do it.

Even when things are going well, you may not realize how much you would benefit from a short vacation away. It offers you time to reflect, clear your head, and get back to objectivity. If you aren’t stepping back every once in a while, you’ll run out of energy and, even worse, never get a look at the big picture. When I headed back, I knew exactly where to attack next.

One more thing I learned.

The longer I stayed at Disney, the longer I wanted to stay. In fact, I kept musing the idea of stay there for another day, maybe a week, or maybe even a month. Then it dawned on me that the only reason that thought even came to my head, was that I had the freedom to do so.

You hear me preach about the benefits of apartment investing, and that was a very real example of what those benefits are. Thanks to my multifamily investments, I had the freedom to stay if I had wanted. I have, through apartment investing, created a system where my money is making money for me in my sleep. It’s all thanks to the fact that I discovered multifamily real estate, and sitting in the Millennium Falcon at Disney, I was incredibly grateful I did.

It’s entirely possible to enjoy that same luxury. Multifamily apartment investing changed my life and it can change yours too. You hear me say the best time to start investing was yesterday, a sentiment that still rings true. If you’re looking to get started, the first step is to educate and invest in yourself. Find an apartment investing mentor to help walk you through your first few deals; you’ll save a lot of time and mistakes that way. You can even sign up to learn directly from me and my team and jumpstart your new retirement plan, career, or even just gain a secondary source of income. Disney is calling, let’s help get you ready to answer!

Robert Martinez great post and such a good point. Taking care of yourself both physically and mentally are so important for your overall health and success. It’s easy to burn out and fatigue so taking a break and mentally resetting is a great way to avoid that burnout.
