TerraPower and SkillBridge
Veterans have long been an integral part of the nuclear energy field. At TerraPower, we know the value of having veterans in the workforce, including those within our own company who are experts in nuclear energy and nuclear medical applications.
The Department of Defense (DOD) provides opportunities for Service members to obtain valuable skills training to prepare for the civilian work experience through its SkillBridge program. Each year, through carefully crafted internships, apprenticeships, and industry-specific training, the program helps approximately 200,000 members of the U.S. Armed Forces bridge the gap between military and civilian life. Ultimately, this program can increase their employability and help them thrive in their post-military careers; and may even guide them toward paths in higher education.
TerraPower is proud to be one of the trusted industry partners of SkillBridge offering these valuable training opportunities.
The U.S. Armed Forces have extensive hands-on expertise in the nuclear field, using nuclear energy to power essential assets like submarines and ships. As a result, the U.S. produces experts who can use their skills to advance the private sector, decarbonize industry, protect the environment, save lives with targeted cancer treatments, and beyond.
Our own Chris Levesque, President and CEO of TerraPower, served as a nuclear submarine officer aboard the USS Will Rogers (SSBN-659) and the USS Boise (SSN-764) and considers the experience to be foundational to his career. “TerraPower hires veterans because their experiences are an asset to innovation,” said Levesque. “I am proud that my company employs talented veterans who work with their nuclear peers from national labs, academia, and the private sector on a mission to develop the next generation of nuclear energy.”

1yDoes U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have a program to move veterans (especially those with skills relevant for renewables and nuclear energy) into industry? This DoD program seems like a good opportunity for left and right hands to play the same song.
