It takes a Community

It takes a Community

2021 marked an incredible year for The DEI Discussions. With an incredible series of guests that truly inspired us to walk the talk for change, it was a privilege to provide a platform to the most ground-breaking voices in our space. Drawing our 2021 series to a close, we had the pleasure of featuring Martyna Borys-Liszka, Account Director at YAP Global, on our Women of Fintech series; and Cristina Danila, SVP of Marketing at FintechOS, joined us on The Maternity and Paternity Stories of Fintech series. Both brought a different set of experiences to the fore but Cristina and Martyna echoed each others comments on the power of community. We all face unique challenges and bring our own persona to the table, but it's a collective investment that will be vital in driving tangible change.

"Female Crypto leaders can break the gender imbalance by mentoring the next generation. It isn't anything revolutionary but it's something everyone can do."

For Martyna, it's about understanding the remits and potential of your position, and utilising that knowledge to enact change. Whilst given in the context of Crypto leaders, anyone (from junior to C-Suite) can play a role in mentoring the next generation and making the industry accessible to all. As stressed by Martyna, it isn't always about making revolutionary waves but rather finding ways everyone can have a stake in change. In doing so, we unlock a spectrum of voices that will better appeal to a diverse range of keen technologists that are wondering whether FinTech is for them. Take time to understand what your position affords you, and how you can change the norm in your day-to-day.

"Every parent has a unique situation and journey. But we can all make their return to work easier through townhalls and providing platforms where they can voice concerns."

Speaking on our ground-breaking podcast series, The Maternity and Paternity Stories of Fintech, Cristina shared how crucial it is to understand how incredibly unique every experience of parenthood is. With an increasing push for people to bring their whole selves to work, understanding the needs of parents has never been more important. Cristina highlights the role we can all play in easing the stresses of transitioning from maternity and paternity leave, back to working life. Hosting townhalls and the likes provides an opportunity for the entire firm to understand what can be done collectively to make the working environment more welcoming to parents. As stressed by Cristina, individual concerns need to be addressed, but this respect for the individual needs to be embedded into the collective culture of the firm.

Thank you to both guests for sharing your personal journeys and guidance on The DEI Discussions. It was an absolute delight to feature you both on the show!
