The secret to camera confidence? Practice.
Being an effective communicator on camera is easier said than done. You’re not alone if these thoughts have run through your head when watching yourself on video:
- “Is anyone going to actually watch this?”
- “Ugh. I’m rambling.”
- “How do I actually start or end this video?”
- “I can’t stand the sound of my voice.”
- “My words trail upwards and sound too soft.”
- “Did I just set a new record for saying ‘um’ and ‘like’?”
- “My eyes look so weird!”
- “Why do I raise my eyebrow so much?”
It should come as no surprise that the most important variable in developing camera presence is repetition. Practicing. Again. And again.
If your team or company takes video seriously enough to feature its own people, they must be polished, yet authentic. Not robotic or reading from a teleprompter. Your audience must feel a unique connection, not a templated delivery.
Video production, apps, and distribution tools are constantly being innovated with the market. How about innovating yourselves, your teammates, and your employees to match? Maybe you’re not sure about where your video strategy actually begins. If so start with your people and start practicing!
