In this week's edition, Peter Barrett is the fourth generation of his family to run the 30-bedroom Dunmore House.
He talks to Hospitality Ireland about legacy, the long road and following your heart.
In 2024, Dunmore House – a gorgeous family-owned and -run 30-bed seaside property – will be celebrating 75 years since it was purchased as a family home.
"Every single department in the hotel has to work together and in unison to make the guest experience special," said Peter Barrett, general manager at Dunmore House Hotel.
Busiest Month For Restaurants
August was the busiest month for Irish restaurants in 2023, according to new research from AIB.
The data was compiled from over 800 million card transactions carried out by AIB customers – in store and online – from January to November 2023 and has been anonymised and aggregated.
The report shows that bank holiday weekends are big drivers of spending in pubs.
The busiest day for pubs was St Patrick’s Day, 17 March (+218% of the daily average), followed by Sunday 29 October (+156% of the daily average) and Sunday 6 August (+152% of the daily average).
“[The year] 2023 has seen strong performances for many sectors, and it’s great to see the resilience of businesses that faced their fair share of challenges this year, from cost-of-living pressures to severe weather events and a wet summer,” said John Brennan, AIB’s head of SME banking.
“December is set to be a busy month for retail and hospitality, meaning many businesses will finish the year out strong.”
New Hotel In Central Dublin
NYX Hotel Dublin has officially opened, after a €31 million investment, and is located on the Grand Canal at Portobello Harbour, in central Dublin.
The establishment has 175 bedrooms, a restaurant and a bar, along with a state-of-the-art gym.

The interior at NYX Hotel Dublin is inspired by the vibrant energy of Dublin’s streets, combining high-end design with a Dublin edge.
Designed by award-winning interior designer Suzanne Garuda of Garuda Design, NYX Hotel Dublin has a modern and bold decor, including bespoke works from Irish artists, such as Shane Sutton, Janine Jordan and Art Loves, with more to be revealed in the coming months.
Ashford Castle Launches Meet the Winemakers
Ashford Castle has announced that Meet the Winemakers, a weekend featuring some of the world’s most distinguished wines and winemakers, will return for its third season.
The event will take place over the February bank holiday weekend, from 2 to 4 February 2024.
Meet the Winemakers offers guests the opportunity to enjoy fine wines and Irish produce in the company of renowned winemakers.
Alex Van Beek, general manager of Château Giscours, and Lorenzo Pasquini, estate manager of the vineyard at Château d’Yquem, will be taking part this year.
