Oracle Database@AWS

The clouds are becoming open - They're no longer walled gardens. Customers will have choices.

The competition between Oracle and AWS has been intense in recent years. However, in a multicloud world, rivals must collaborate as partners.

Oracle is taking the initiative. Its groundbreaking partnership with Amazon—a service called Oracle Database@AWS, planned for release in the next 12 months—will embed dedicated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) inside AWS data centres to run Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service.

Oracle and Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) announced the launch of Oracle Database@AWS during Oracle CloudWorld 2024.

Oracle Database@AWS will provide customers with a unified experience between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS, offering simplified database administration, billing, and unified customer support.

In addition, customers will be able to seamlessly connect enterprise data in their Oracle Database to applications running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics services, or AWS's advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) services, including Amazon Bedrock.

Early customers working with Oracle Database@AWS include Best Buy, State Street, Vodafone, and Fidelity Investments. The Oracle Database@AWS service will be available in preview later in 2024 and be generally available in 2025, at first in a single region, and then quickly launching to other regions based on demand.

Benefits of Oracle Database@AWS

Innovate with OCI Oracle Database services running in AWS:

  • Modernize mission-critical workloads and develop new applications with flexibility, choice, and control, by natively accessing innovative Oracle Database 23ai and AWS service capabilities with low latency.

  • Generate deeper analytical insights by combining the performance, availability, scale, and security of Oracle Database services with zero-ETL integrations with AWS Analytics to enable you to run near real-time analytics and machine learning on your data without having to build and manage complex data pipelines. In addition to near real-time machine learning with Amazon SageMaker, you can also use your data with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q for generative AI use cases.

  • Build new scalable microservices based applications by combining Amazon EC2, Amazon EKS, and Amazon ECS with Oracle Database features like JSON Relational Duality to accelerate time to market for new features and enabling continuous integration and deployment pipeline.

Migrate Oracle Database workloads to AWS:

  • Simplify migration of database workloads running on OCI in AWS using full feature and architectural compatibility with on-premises Oracle Database and Exadata environments.

  • Achieve the same high levels of database performance available in OCI and gain extreme availability with the combination of Exadata, Oracle’s Maximum Availability Architecture (including RAC), and multiple AWS Availability Zones.

  • Optimize nearly any workload and reduce management overhead by combining AWS services with Oracle Exadata Database Service’s capabilities for optimizing transactional, analytical and machine workloads or Autonomous Database capabilities for automated management, tuning, and scaling in the same Amazon Virtual Private Cloud.

Simplify management and operations:

  • Oracle and AWS are partnering together to provide a unified experience for collaborative support, purchasing, management, and operations. You can pay for Oracle Database services using your existing AWS Private Pricing Agreements, and use your existing Oracle license benefits and discount programs such as Oracle Support Rewards.

  • Leverage existing AWS and Oracle Database skills, automation, and processes together in a single cloud environment.

  • Simplify management and operations using native integration with the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, APIs, and monitoring.

In summary, Oracle Database@AWS offers a flexible, scalable, and secure solution for running Oracle Database workloads on AWS. It is a great option for customers who want to benefit from the power of the Oracle Database while leveraging the advantages of the cloud.

AI will revolutionize the world 🌎 but people still want to use Oracle databases. Also, they are resistant to change and like custom solutions. This partnership meets the markets needs for a multi cloud environment.
