#MyGreenwinLife is a series that highlights individual members of the Greenwin team by exploring their unique journeys, which have led them to become valued members of our company. Through the inspiring stories, memories and experiences of our people, we celebrate the connection and sense of community that is the backbone of our organization.

Today we would like to share the story of Jess Faigal, Vice President, Finance:

My initial employment at Greenwin was from 2002 to 2005 as the Controller. After leaving to pursue other opportunities, I realized that my home was with Greenwin and I couldn’t stay away. 11 years later, in 2016, I returned to Greenwin to reprise my role as Controller. One year later, I was promoted to Director of Finance, and in 2019 to Vice President, Finance, where I remain today.

Growing with Greenwin has been an exceptional opportunity, in which I have learned many life skills. Enrolling in career development programs, such as Executive Coaching sessions, has helped me bridge the gap between my expectations vs. the expectations of others. I’ve learned to understand the desires, aspirations, and goals of others and appreciate how they differ for each individual. I wouldn’t be the leader I am today without the support of my colleagues and the resources available at Greenwin. I look up to the qualities that I see in my teammates, such as nimbleness and the ability to make quick decisions, and am glad to be part of such a dynamic team of forward-thinking individuals.

Throughout my career at Greenwin, I’ve come to realize that education is a lifelong journey. I never would have imagined going back to school after I had already begun my career, but I’m proud to say that today I hold a CPA, CGA designation and an MBA graduate degree. Realizing this sense of purpose and the desire to further my education has helped me shape my career to what it is today.

If I were to describe Greenwin’s culture in one word it would be “cohesive”.  We value each other’s contributions and there is an overall mindset of working toward common goals, together, which I value immensely. I remember, in 2019, attending the retirement party for Kathryn Kent after 52 years of service at Greenwin. Seeing past Greenwin employees and multi-generational Green family members at the retirement celebration made it clear that loyalty and dedication are traits valued by Greenwin.

Working for a family business creates a family atmosphere, which is evident at Greenwin. The genuine concern for the well-being of one another does not go unnoticed. We celebrate happy occasions such as marriage, the birth of a child, and work anniversaries, as well as offer a shoulder to lean on when someone is going through difficult times. This is really important to me, as being able to help my colleagues is what brings me joy at work. Helping someone is a broad spectrum, it can be as simple as offering a cup of coffee to a busy colleague or collaborating with the team to help solve a complex issue. There is an intrinsic joy in knowing that I have made a difference in someone’s life, whether it is uplifting the spirits of a colleague who is having a bad day at work or inspiring one of my team members to excel in their career.

Greenwin’s caring and compassionate nature expands beyond the workplace within our philanthropic arm, Greenwin Cares. I appreciate working for a company that is so visible in the community. We have an insatiable desire to help the communities we serve, and this resonates deeply with myself and many of my colleagues.
