The Latest from Firefly’s Product Team

The Latest from Firefly’s Product Team

It’s the last Thursday of the month, and the last Thursday of the year. This calls for an extra-special roundup of product updates, and a look at what you missed if you didn’t catch us at AWS re:Invent this year.

In this edition, we’re giving you a sneak peek at what’s new from Firefly as we head into 2025.

Let’s dig into the details ⬇

You Can Now Discover Your Connected Services

We’re taking infrastructure visibility a step further, again. Our latest capability lets you automatically identify and track third-party tools and services integrated across your entire cloud infrastructure.

Gain complete visibility into your cloud ecosystem's external dependencies, helping you better manage security, compliance, and resource utilization across your infrastructure.

See a walkthrough on YouTube.

Tagging Coverage Just Got Even Better

We’ve also upgraded Tagging Coverage to give you even better visibility into how well your cloud assets are tagged. Now available across the Integrations Screen, Dashboard, Workflows, and Inventory, it tracks tagged vs. untagged assets (only for taggable resources) to help you identify gaps, improve governance, and ensure your cloud assets are organized for better control and efficiency.

Follow the walkthrough on YouTube.

We’ve Expanded Our Relationship Graph Functionality

Our Relationship Graph just got smarter! In addition to existing relationships, we’ve added new connections: Uses, Attached, and Contains. For example, see how an EC2 instance uses an AMI, is attached to a VPC, or how a Subnet contains the EC2. This enhancement provides a deeper, more intuitive view of your infrastructure relationships.

You Can Duplicate Custom Governance Policies in Seconds

Great news! You can now duplicate custom policies in Firefly instantly. Simply select Duplicate Policy from the menu of any custom policy to create a copy with all fields pre-filled. It will make it easy to fine-tune or create variations, saving you time and ensuring consistency across your Governance rules.

We’ve Got New Module Call Codification Formats

We've expanded our module call codification format options to include tfvars and tfvars JSON formats, giving you more flexibility in managing your infrastructure configurations. These additional formats complement our existing format options, making it easier to integrate with your preferred workflow and tooling.

Workflows Code Scanning Is Even More Comprehensive

We've expanded our Workflows scanning capabilities to include KICS analysis of your infrastructure code alongside plan evaluation. This dual-layer approach helps catch potential security issues earlier in your development cycle, providing clearer visibility of vulnerabilities in both your code and planned changes.

The result? You can strengthen your security posture by identifying vulnerabilities before they reach production while maintaining a clear separation between code-level and plan-level security findings.

You Now Have Enhanced Code Editor Controls

We've expanded our codification features with file management options, giving you more control over your code organization.

Now you can add multiple files, rename existing ones, and delete files as needed. When working with multiple files, your exports and pull requests will maintain your custom file structure and naming conventions, streamlining your workflow for the codification of IaC.

You Get In-App Access to the Firefly Essentials Library

We've added the Firefly Essentials video library directly into the app, providing quick access to platform tutorials and feature guides.

The Firefly Essentials library helps you maximize platform value through step-by-step tutorials, feature demonstrations, and best practices: all available right where you need them.

Bonus Update: What You May Have Missed at AWS re:Invent

Didn’t make it to Vegas this year for re:Invent 2024? You may have missed a few things (like the chance to try your hand on our tabletop PacMan game).

You also may have missed some of the cloud infrastructure tips we were dropping in conversations. (Those were even hotter than the Star Wars themed swag attendees couldn’t stop raving about). We’ll recap them for you though, because we don’t believe in gatekeeping knowledge.

Firefly's top 5 tips to control cloud chaos? Here's the round up:

  • Tip # 1. → Track your IaC coverage.

  • Tip # 2. → Audit your ClickOps operations.

  • Tip # 3. → Generate IaC from existing cloud resources.

  • Tip # 4. → Identify and remediate IaC drifts.

  • Tip # 5. → Automate IaC scanning with shift-left guardrails.
