Just Today...
My name is Selle Evans, I'm one of those moms that makes my kids pancakes in the shape of animals on Saturday mornings. I plan a menu each week so that I can come home and cook a warm meal for my family. Most nights I bathe my kids and put them to bed. I read them bedtime stories and sing them songs. I change the words of those songs to include the things they love. It's our thing and I wouldn't change it for the world.
I'm also President & CEO of a thriving company. In a typical week, I work 50-60 hours including business development, strategic planning, employee management, association events and CEO Peer Groups. And meetings - a lot of meetings.
I know, I know - how's that even possible right? In the first part of this series, I focused on a starting point - now I want to tell you where the story is today. I want to explain why my story is even worth reading.
I've done a lot of things wrong. I chose the wrong major in college. I messed up my credit. Dated the wrong guys - married one of them. Lost my mother before I had a chance to get out of my own way long enough to forgive her for being human.
In my worst time, I hit rock bottom and there in the depths of my despair, I saw myself clearly. I didn't hide from my truth or deny it - I knew who I was, I knew whom I wanted to be and that is powerful.
It all boiled down to something my high school principal used to exclaim as she walked down the halls each day - something that I now tell my children. They recite it.
"Bad choices, bad things happen. Good choices, good things happen."
It seems oversimplified, I know. But honestly, that's all there is to it. Decide whom you want to be and every decision you make after that moment should align with that.
Next, I'll tell you how I decided whom I wanted to be and what steps I took to become her.
When did you decide whom you wanted to be? What did you do to ensure that's exactly who you became?
Stay tuned for Part III.
