I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss.

I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss.

It's FRIDAY! I'm a FEMINIST! So it's time again for ✨ FEMINISM FRIDAY ✨ !

This week I wanna talk about DAUGHTERS! More specifically... MY DAUGHTER... because she's ace.

But she's already been using words that I don't think are appropriate for little girls to use. No not 'fuck' or 'shit' (if she uses them in context, I'll let it slide). I mean words like 'bossy'.

Bossy is a toxic word. It's generally ONLY used when referring to little girls who are asserting their authority or displaying leadership skills. And yes, they might not be entirely refined skills because, well, she's six.

So, as the mother of an independent and direct daughter (where did she learn that from?!), I implore you other girl mums to remove the word BOSSY from your vocabulary at home.

We've replaced it with 'assertive'. And if someone calls her bossy, well, I've told her the perfect comeback.

✨ I'm not bossy, I'm the BOSS ✨

If we want to bring up girls who are badass bitches in the workplace, who have the confidence to lead, who aren't afraid of confrontation and giving direction, then we have to allow them to practice these skills as children. And telling them they're "bossy" is telling them these traits are negative, that they shouldn't be leading, that they need to shrink themselves.

And I'm not growing a wallflower. I'm growing the damn gardener.

Go forth and be ASSERTIVE, girls. You got this. Be the boss.
