No Fuss Water Line Repair Done for NC Homeowner

A few years ago, Ken B. and his wife received a letter at their Shelby, North Carolina, home introducing the emergency home repair plan from HomeServe and they decided to sign up, first for the exterior water service line repair plan, then for a plan that covered the home’s interior plumbing and drains.

“I’m 70 now and I don’t think that I can shovel 100 yards three feet deep (to replace a water service line),” Ken said.

Then their local water utility contacted them to let them know that their water usage was unusually high – two and a half times what they would normally use. Ken’s first step was to reach out to a retired plumber he knew for help. Ken’s friend advised that there were likely several leaks on his water service line.

It was bad news for Ken and potentially his budget … until his wife remembered that they enrolled in the exterior water service line repair plan from HomeServe.

“A few years ago, we got the mailer and talked about it,” Ken said. “We figured that you never know (what might happen) and we might as well. We signed up for the exterior (water line), then for the in-home (plumbing).”

Ken was quick to make a call to HomeServe, and Spangler Drain and Rooter was dispatched the next day to address his issues. Spangler determined that there was a leak under the home’s slab and roughly 25 feet of the water service line needed to be replaced.

“They were in contact with us every step of the way,” Ken said. “There was water coming out of the bottom of the concrete pad. There was a great kid who did most of the work – jackhammering concrete, hauling it out. I can’t recommend them more. The plumber was fantastic.”

Ken was very pleased not only with the smooth, level concrete work that Spangler did, but that they had scattered grass seed and laid straw over where they dug a trench in the yard. Spangler had left his home and yard in good shape, and, even better, HomeServe covered $2,500 of the cost of the repair, up to his benefit amount.

“You guys did flawless,” Ken said. “I’m happy to sing your praises. This was a godsend. We weren’t sure what we were going to do. I’m just thrilled we had (the plan) and it took care of most all of it. No muss, No fuss. I’m glad we had it.”
