Empowering Women in Tech: A Remarkable Brunch Event

Empowering Women in Tech: A Remarkable Brunch Event

“There are only two things that will change your life: The people you meet and the books you read.” This quote summarizes my journey perfectly. I am a testament to the transformative power of meeting the right people and reading the right books. This idea aligns beautifully with the philosophy of Ubuntu, which translates to “I am because we are.”

This philosophy emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity and underscores the importance of empathy, cooperation, and community. It reminds me that our individual well-being is intricately linked to the well-being of others and that by lifting each other up, we can all rise together.

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, I had the privilege of attending an extraordinary event under the “Heels Connect” initiative by SisterSpeaks Global & Heels4Pads Foundation . This event was a partnership between Power Learn Project and SisterSpeaks Global & Heels4Pads Foundation .

As a woman dedicated to empowering young women, this event held a special place in my heart. It brought together remarkable women in technology to inspire and uplift those daring to dream and carve out their path in this dynamic field. And as the Chairlady of Power Learn Project I was elated to speak to the ladies on taking chances and exploring tech opportunities even in non tech industries.

I am still in awe of the incredible achievements of women in technology. Catherine Muraga Muraga, Managing Director of Microsoft ADC, shared her compelling story of building her career, triumphing over challenges, and paving the way for future leaders. Similarly, Anastasiah Muchemi , IT & Facilities Superintendent at Base Titanium, inspired us with her journey from overseeing the construction of the Kwale quarry to her current leadership role in technology and mining.

The event was a treasure trove of inspiring stories from numerous women who have made significant strides in technology. However, the highlight for me was the speed mentorship session. It was a unique opportunity for mentees to engage directly with industry leaders, gaining invaluable insights and advice.

When women come together, great things happen.

Key takeaways from the event included:

  1. Resilience and Perseverance: Many speakers highlighted the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges.

  2. Networking and Mentorship: Building a strong network and seeking mentorship were emphasized as crucial steps for career growth.

  3. Community Support: The power of community and supporting each other was a recurring theme, showing that we rise by lifting others.

The event created a vibrant forum for young women to network and learn from the best in the industry. As a firm believer in the transformative power of meeting the right people, I hope those who attended left feeling inspired and equipped to pursue their dreams.

To all the young women in technology out there, attending such events is not just about networking; it’s about being part of a community that supports and elevates each other. Together, we can achieve great things.
