Passion = Employer Branding
Employer branding doesn't start with marketing, it starts with company Leaders, with their passion for what they do. The steps are very similar to my earlier post about Teams engagement, in this case Employer just applies it to candidates.
Assuming that there is passion in the Leadership Team, which propagates to all Employees, below are some ideas on how to share it outside of the company:
- Come up with funny, sincere, genuine ads - don't be afraid to be original, ask people working in the roles you are recruiting for how they would like to advertise it
- Be creative during the interviews, so that people remember it as a positive experience, regardless if they passed or not; use this opportunity to tell them about the company, let them meet some Employees
- Always make everyone feel welcome and comfortable, even if someone fails an interview, communicate in an extremely nice way
- Hire someone already known in a community, they will become your advocate
- Create company workshops so people outside understand better what it is about, learn something, get to know your Employees
- Every now and then organize events for people who participated in the recruitment process, both, those who did and didn't pass (maybe they will in the future and surely they have friends)
- Promote your Team members, their work in strategic channels
Coders Center is fantastic at this, you can see it here:

In their case, it definitely starts from the genuine passion for what they do, honest, humble approach and respect for Team Members and Customers.
