To Developers: Why Recruiters?

To Developers: Why Recruiters?

During my career I had both, good and bad experience with recruiters. At some point I realised their tremendous value.

I actually built relations with recruiters I like. Not only when I was looking for a job, but when I didn’t need it. Even more, I reached out to some of the recruiters I knew were good, in order to build such relations. This way, we had time to get to know each other. They could understand my preferences, my style, follow my results, give me feedback.

Then, when there was something potentially interesting for me, they would contact me and tell about it. In other cases, I would reach out to them, when I was ready for a change, because I knew, they can save my time, they know what I want and they usually have wide range of open positions.

Especially for the most unique assignments. Recruiters also care about their reputation and when it comes to truly unique assignments, they prefer to offer it to someone they trust, they like and they know. After all, their band is on the line.

They have also relationships with Clients, so sometimes, even if your experience doesn’t match perfectly, they can convince Clients to give you a chance. You can also get some career advice, or statistics or info about a company culture (they usually have a lot of info about companies). Sometimes, a company may have not so good opinion on the market, but they know that things have changed and it’s worth trying.

So how about you? Do you build relations with your recruiters? Do ask them for information? Do you ask them for advice?

This is how we work, at Iterative. We are a recruitment company founded by software engineers and recruiters, passionate about people and career development.
