Creator or consumer? You get to choose.

Creator or consumer? You get to choose.

This week's a short one.

It is a reflection and still a work in progress...

Over coffee this week, I was told: "There are two types of people in fashion: the creators and the consumers."

Creators actively nurture their inspiration to make clothes for the consumer. An active act. Consumers get to choose what to buy. A passive one.

I couldn't stop thinking about it. Here are a few thoughts I am still chewing on.

First, we know consuming is relatively easy; instead, creating requires effort, discipline, and commitment.

As a consumer (fashion, books, or shows), I often forget the effort creators put into bringing their ideas to life, but I am quick to criticize.

Creating brings out people's unique essence and is the way we share our singular ideas, desires, and experiences with the world. It is also entirely subjective.

I also found that creation is one of the keys to escaping the consumer herd mindset.  And it might even be the antidote to burnout.

I believe we all have a natural ability to create, be it design, music, dancing, or storytelling: A friend in real estate just shared her first exhibit with me.  I also heard Sharon Stone is a great painter.

Yet, as a child, I was never great at music, drawing, or dancing, so I never considered myself a creator. Quite the opposite.  But what if I was?

It may be time to write that book.

Let me call my muse.

And how about you call yours? I want
