The business of....

The brief history of my career to date: Chartered Surveyor; Policy Advisor; Information Management; Project Management; an MBA; Management Consultancy; Transformational Change. The first half of my career to date was spent 'doing', but from the outset I've focussed on the systems, processes and control to do it better, alongside the joy of rent reviews, broken toilets, late payments and data quality issues.

As my career has progress, I've focused less and less about the detail and more about on the business impact. The business of real estate is about the money, people, information and relationships that determine decisions, structures and control mechanisms. The business of technology, or any other corporate service is no different. You have to know enough to ask the right questions and be credible to those providing the service, but the business fundamentals are exactly the same.

My recent change in role provides the opportunity to finally start writing about this; the business of services, rather than the services themselves, and how they can be delivered better. About how both classic and emerging business thinking can be applied to corporate services. Those who've worked with me know that I love professional challenge as the path to the best solution, so I'm hopeful that is what my thoughts and ponderings will generate.
