today is January 6, 2025 - here is what we are covering.

Investment in AI-powered medical note-taking apps surged significantly last year. The sector saw a doubling of investments, with companies raising $800 million in 2024, compared to $390 million in 2023. Tech giants and startups are eager to capitalize on the growing $26 billion AI healthcare market. Medical professionals are exploring AI solutions to reduce administrative tasks and enhance patient care. Industry experts highlight the transformative impact of this technology on the healthcare sector.

Speaking of major investments in AI...

Microsoft plans to invest $80 billion in AI-focused data centers this fiscal year. This initiative is seen as a crucial move to harness the "golden opportunity for American AI." The investment will primarily be within the United States, bolstering AI technology and infrastructure. Microsoft also aims to train 2.5 million Americans with AI skills to support this growth. The strategy includes exporting AI innovations to allies, ensuring the U.S. maintains a competitive edge globally.

And on the topic of AI fueling economic growth...

The Caribbean island of Anguilla is reaping financial rewards due to its association with the .ai domain, aligned with the artificial intelligence boom. The .ai domain, originally assigned based on Anguilla's name, has become a lucrative digital asset amid the rising popularity of AI. Revenue from domain registrations soared to $32 million last year, supporting about 20% of the island's government revenue. Anguilla's government recently partnered with a U.S. company, Identity Digital, to manage demand and enhance domain security. This income funds essential projects, but officials caution against over-dependence on this unpredictable revenue stream.

Meanwhile, AI’s reach continues to expand into sports...

Football clubs may soon use AI technology to identify future soccer stars. The system analyzes video footage of 180,000 young players globally, providing data on their performance. Eyeball, a digital scouting company, collaborates with prominent clubs like those in the Premier League. By matching players to archetypes like "modern No 9," AI helps scouts find talents reminiscent of top players. However, the long-term impact of AI in scouting remains uncertain.

Now, switching to a cautionary tale about AI...

Meta has recently faced backlash after users discovered AI-generated accounts impersonating real people. The uproar began when it was revealed that these accounts, such as one named "Liv," included fictional personal stories and identities. As criticism intensified, Meta removed several of these AI accounts, citing a "bug" as the cause for their existence. A spokesperson clarified that the AI user profiles were part of an experimental phase, not a fully launched feature. Meta's quick response underscores the challenges tech companies face in balancing AI advancements with user trust.

Finally, from AI to a personal story of innovation...

In a recent Back in America podcast interview, Coco Kee shares her inspiring journey from Peking University to Silicon Valley success, highlighting her influence in blockchain and cryptocurrency. As co-founder of Key Global Advisors, she credits her literature and theater background for shaping her creativity and networking skills. Kee also explores why Trump resonates with some in the Chinese American community, pointing to his pro-crypto stance in contrast with the regulatory challenges under the Biden administration.
