The 6 Do's & Don'ts of Engage Boston 2024
by Christian Coley & Matt Dichter
As Engage Boston draws near, we’ve had tons of conversations with colleagues, customers, and partners about the event. And the more conversations we’ve had, the more we have realized how ill-equipped our fellow attendees may be in navigating the ins & outs of not just the conference, but the city of Boston.
Fear not! As long-time Bullhorn sales reps (now Marketplace Partners) from the Boston area, Matt and I have teamed up to help you with 6 Do’s & Don’ts for this year's event.
While we will both be there with our respective teams speaking with firms about their technology & growth strategy, we will also be available for on-site support and reccs :)
1.
Do: Dunkin'. We'd tell you where to find it, but it may be easier to tell you where they aren’t. Which is nowhere - there is one on every corner. Also, call it “Dunks”. If you're staying at the hotel, go out of the back door near the entrance to the conference, take a right on D St, walk one minute and you’re there. If Starbucks is more your jam, use the app to order ahead to the store in the lobby - it will save you a bunch of time.
Don’t: Don’t ask for a regular coffee if you want it black. “Regular” here means: put in lots of cream and sugar, then a few drops of actual coffee just for color.
Also, you may get lucky and see Ben.
2.
Do: Walk around the Seaport or North End - great views and Hanover St. is a blast. If you're into history, take a walk on the Freedom Trail.
Don’t: Wait an hour for Mike’s Pastry on Hanover - try Modern across the way. Even better, go to Bovas which is right around the corner
Don’t say we didn’t warn you…
3.
Do: Make reservations or dinner plans ahead of time - hot places will fill up. Or go to one of the many Bullhorn or Partner parties - free food and drink :)
Don’t: Expect things to be open late for after-hours shenanigans. Boston is not New York. Bars close by 2 if you’re lucky and restaurants way earlier. Again, hit up the sponsored parties!
4.
Do: Find a sports bar for Celtics & Bruins playoff games (they should both still be alive). Hot Tip: The Sporting Club at the Omni across the street is awesome!
Don’t: Wear a Yankees or Habs jersey and expect not to get dirty looks - other sports gear is welcome
Our recommendation: just become a Boston fan for a few days and buy some Celtics gear to fit in :)
5.
Do: Come check out the tech stack talk Tuesday afternoon at 2pm - Staffing Engine will be presenting!
Don’t: Miss Matt Fischer’s “Vision for Innovation” on Wednesday. Awesome speaker and always good to know where the future of Staffing Tech is going!
If you haven’t gotten around to it, make sure to check out the 2024 Engage Agenda.
6.
Do: Flying in early or staying late? Grab a tour on the Boston Duckboats - the only boat on wheels (that we know of!)
Don’t: Imitate a Boston accent. Asking people if their car is parked in Harvard Yard is, well... just don't.
See you there!
