5 Reasons to Join a CSA
The first CSAs started over 30 years ago as a way to collectively support Farmers in growing, harvesting, and selling their produce. A group would gather together purchase the seeds and supplies, and often times even help on the farm! Once the produce was ready to be harvested, everyone shared the bounty. Modern CSAs, also referred to as organic buying clubs or co-ops, are an amazing way to participate in this tradition, without getting your hands dirty.
The benefits to joining a CSA are many, but here are the top few:
- The high quality produce from the best Farmers – Since the produce is grown specifically for use in a CSA, Farmers are able to plan their crops and pick them at peak ripeness. Since the produce doesn’t sit on shelves for a long time, often it is picked and delivered immediately; it will stay fresher longer as long as it is store properly.
- Organic or Biodynamic Farming Practices- Typically CSAs utilize more environmentally friendly farming practices than industrial Farmers. It’s important to ask any CSA that you consider how they grow their produce. Local doesn’t always mean organic and organic doesn’t always mean local.
- Affordable Pricing – Since the produce is specifically harvested for the members, the Farmers can anticipate the costs of production and eliminate waste. Because there is no retail store, prices are often less than that of a health food market, and often less than the price of conventional produce.
- Convenience – Being part of a CSA is easy! There are CSAs all over the country. Endlessly Organic is the premier CSA for South Florida.
- Healthy Living Information and Community Involvement– CSAs often provide members with the tools to help facilitate a healthy lifestyle. Health educators and local chefs provide seminars to the community via speaking engagements and cooking demonstrations. Other events include potlucks, farm tours, and movie nights. CSAs often donate unclaimed shares and donate a portion of their harvest to food banks.
Endlessly Organic is a 100% USDA Certified Organic CSA (community supported agriculture) also known as a co-op or wholesale organic buying club. When members join Endlessly Organic, they will receive a bounty of fresh organic fruits and vegetables, sourced and selected from organic farmers, delivered directly to their office or neighborhood every other week for pick up. All produce arrives fresh picked, chemical free, ready to eat, and at a cost often lower than conventional produce at the grocery store. There are five produce box options starting at just $40.
