Have Entrepreneurs Lost The Will To Innovate?
At Virgin we've been disrupting for over four decades. But is innovative disruption as active today as it has ever been?
Today we're in San Francisco with an incredible panel of experts debating the question: Have entrepreneurs lost the will to innovate?
There has never been more opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-ups to make positive changes to people's lives, to disrupt the norm and to innovate.
However, there are a great many challenges facing those who attempt to shake up industries: government regulations, monopolised markets, red tape and dirty tricks from competitors can sometimes make it difficult.
So why is all this getting in the way? Is change and true innovation being prevented? Have entrepreneurs lost the will to innovate? Join the debate live, right now.

6yi saw one example.. where is virgin cola anyway? do they fail to innovate? When I was driving my motorcycle.. I suddenly saw bottle and bottles and bottles . and piles of broken bottles of virgin cola.. there was a media campaign that it was dirty and there was an FOM on the bottle? how to innovate? ..there was shortage of the bottles and lost of bottles and some bottles where rumored hoarded in a warehouse by the competitor and later to be broken so that there could no longer be bottles to refill and so the sales declined and it died... how did they innovate? using plastic bottles as what did the competitors..

7yLook it is not the lacking of will or ability to innovate, I have myself patented hybrid system with 0 emissions but very huge energy potential for very long net-usage time and avoiding the usual problems with full electric systems with battery stacks. But no one is interested to build with me something really new, people are scared panicly trying to keep hold on the usual things avoiding "risks" to make something really new. People are used on short term simple solutions starting with the politicians who should support building new technology but often having not enough knowledge and being influenced by lobbyists who - you guess- are steered by existing industry who definitely do not want to change anything. The s.c. innovations are often in areas like IT program developments which is actually not creating any new things, just making f.i. control systems more efficient. Or making new designs of coffee mugs which are nice to keep in hand and keeps the coffee warm long time-or something like this-you got the idea. The real entrenepeurship needs some fresh money to take also risky developments which are solving the REAL problems of this earth, but somehow this is not interesting anyone. In my case I looked at the pictures in really big cities of this earth from people who are concretely suffering from the huge emission load like in Beijing, New DElhi, Mexico City among others. I want to create technology which immediately is helping these people concretely killing emissions , and solving the traffic volume problems. By God where is the whole money in this earth-ball for these developments. I tried at the end directly my home bank to borrow money for this , but they did not understand even the system function (and did not ask me deeper) and just neglected the whole idea. THis is so typical today. Politicis and financial decision makers are overloaded by these big problems because they are not simple and touching several countries simultanously. So do not blame lacking of innovation either in younger but specially in experienced people, the problem layes in the system getting money to make these technical innovations concrete and functional.
