Hiring is a two-way street, but it all starts with setting the right expectations from day one. If you’ve been clear about job responsibilities and expectations—like making 80 cold calls a day—you’ve got the framework in place to hold people accountable. When someone falls short, you can address it directly because the groundwork was laid from the start. The lesson? If you’re clear and upfront about what success looks like, it’s easier to steer things back on track when things go wrong. How do you hold your team accountable while maintaining clarity? https://linktw.in/BpHTho https://linktw.in/FRzYBy https://linktw.in/WabQJa

The day escrow closed on my new house, I got laid off. 2023 was wild. As we’re all painfully aware by now—the cost of capital skyrocketed, unemployment surged, and interest rates were a mess. For me, it reached a whole new level. At work, I was leading a talented but frightened team of UX professionals through two RIFs, while simultaneously trying to prove myself to one new manager after another. At home, I faced a fear I’d never felt in my life—I had been on my HOA’s board of directors, but people had started passing my personal information around without my permission, and harassing me with their personal problems each time I set foot outside. And don’t even get me started about what was in the news. Mentally, I was struggling. Like, the scary kind of struggle. So, I made the tough choice to sell my condo and relocate myself and my family away from my toxic home environment. Having asked for help at work without relief, I felt that it was the only thing I could do within my control. We sold in October, and closed escrow on a beautiful little house FAR away from my toxic neighbors on November 30th. Then came the notice— my role was eliminated in the company’s third RIF of the year. So why share this now, 6 months later? Going through this kind of mental anguish made me reframe what matters. I’m rejecting what got me in this situation in the first place: Hustle culture, people pleasing, and poor boundaries. I’m creating peace, joy, and self-love. I’m trying on new mindsets and possibilities, and seeing how they fit. I'm enjoying my beautiful new home (pictured below). That takes time. I took my time. I’m really glad I did. Now, I’m ready for new opportunities. I’m not desperate to dive back into the hustle, but I’m open to what’s next. I make things that look great and perform well. If you or someone you know needs something designed, let’s talk. If you or someone you know needs a compassionate leader for your creative team, let’s talk. I’m here when you need me. #opentowork #leaddesigner #designleader #mentalhealth #hustleculture

(And don’t forget to follow recruiters… Ashley Powers has some open roles!) 📣 MG Properties also made news as they are teaming up with KKR (along with Carter-Haston & Dalan Real Estate) to handle management of the newly acquired 2.1B portfolio from Quarterra Group. 🤝 In other innovative deal news, Dianne P. Crocker shared a novel approach to residential development from Costco Wholesale & Thrive Living. 🗞️ “Coming soon” and “new brand” were trending this week, some announced at Apartmentallize, others announced on LinkedIn. 🤩 There were posts celebrating anniversaries for company (and marriage) along with team appreciation events, like Hillpointe shared by Eileen Corbitt, CAM®️. 🎉 Yesterday was national “work from home” day and both Jonathan Treble & Evan Happel shared their perspectives on it. 🗓️ And if you are looking for a marketing idea, Stewart Sadler gave us a pretty brilliant one that isn’t just for lenders… 🛜. This week has been a grind for me, so surely I’ve missed something important…. …let me know in the comments below. (And I won’t call you Shirley!) ✈️ And happy end of week/month/quarter friends! 😃 #multifamily

#CareerAdvice #JobSearch #BayAreaJobs #SoftwareEngineering #RealEstate #JobMarket Hey everyone! 😊 I’m in a bit of a pickle here and could really use some guidance. I’m a middle-aged former software engineer who hasn’t worked in quite a few years, and I need to get my annual income up to around $75k to make ends meet in the Bay Area. I initially set my sights on two jobs: Returning to Software Engineering: This sounds tempting, but I know I’d essentially be starting from square one. Plus, talking to friends who are still in the tech scene, it seems like the job market, especially for junior positions, is pretty rough. 🥱 Becoming a Real Estate Agent: With my outgoing personality, I figured I’d be great at client relations. But then reality hit: the real estate market in the Bay Area is super competitive. My circle of connections is tiny, and unfortunately, no one in it is looking to buy or sell. 😬 I've spent a lot of time browsing job sites, but it feels like I’m hitting a w... What Jobs Can I Pursue to Earn $75k/Year in the Bay Area? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gzVD8ngt Let's Connect! Have you faced similar challenges? Share your insights and experienc...
