Our heart goes out to those that have lost a loved one to overdose. Our heart goes out to the one suffering that lost the fight. Our heart goes out to the one that made it through an OD but is still fighting. If you or someone you know is struggling with SUD, you are not alone in this journey. Reach out. Support stands between a life lost and a life saved, and a life saved could be a life changed. That's what we're here for. #themillionmileproject #substanceusedisorder #overdoseawarenessday #youarenotalone #supportrecovery

It's crazy how many people have died or gotten really hurt from falling while trying to get to a shelter. If you invest in training your core balance, you'll move better and be less likely to fall. Check out how Laura Aronson improved her balance and can now get to a shelter easily. #reducefalling #MoveBetter

How are we doing today? It's a thankful Thursday again, and this week, we are focusing on a serious and important issue — Overdose awareness. We are deeply grateful for the resilience of survivors and the tireless efforts of those dedicated to prevention and support. We need to take a moment to appreciate the progress in increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and saving lives. We're grateful for every open-hearted conversation, each inspiring story, and the support that fosters recovery and hope. By continuing to educate, support, and care, we can help turn the tide against overdose. Let's keep making a difference, offering understanding, and spreading hope to those impacted. Keep the conversation going—share your thoughts, stories, or words of encouragement. Together, we can build a supportive network that uplifts and empowers. #twinocean #overdoseawareness #thankfulthursday #supportrecovery #endstigma #community

The Elephant in the room 🐘 'The way we talk about Dying Matters’, is this years theme for dying matters week, we have chosen to go with the concept of talking about the elephant in the room and having those uncomfortable difficult conversations. We visited some shops followed by walk round the hospice asking people to answer a question which created a buzz and made conversations start. Check out the video below and let us know your answer in the comments ❓❓ #dyingmattersweeks #hospicecare #elephantintheroom

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month At the YMCA of Delaware, we’re proud to launch our new Pedaling for Parkinson’s program offered at no cost to our Dover and Middletown communities this spring thanks to the generous support of the Borkee Hagley Foundation and in partnership with the Davis Phinney Foundation. We all want a cure for Parkinson's. However, until that happens, we know that people are going to live a very long time with it; therefore, the most important work we can do is to help them live well today. Please share or complete our interest form to register for our upcoming session beginning in April: https://lnkd.in/eTA2bhV8 Parkinson's disease is a chronic and progressive neurological disorder that affects nearly one million people in the United States. The disease occurs when the brain cells responsible for producing dopamine start to degenerate, causing a wide range of symptoms that can vary in severity and progression rate from person to person. The four main symptoms of Parkinson's are tremors, muscle stiffness, slowness of movement, and impaired balance and coordination. So, it’s movement disorder, but it can also cause depression and other emotional changes. Regular exercise – especially cycling – has been shown to be hugely beneficial, reducing symptoms by up to 35%, and doing so “above the subjects’ voluntary exercise rates” is best. What does that mean? Well, it means sometimes we need an extra push. Group stationary bike classes like those offered at no cost, 3 days a week, in our Pedaling for Parkinson’s program are a great way to do this while building community! Please help us spread the word of this important community health resource.
Register Now: We’re excited to offer Pedaling For Parkinson’s at the Dover and Middletown Family YMCA locations starting on April 8th! The Y has partnered with the Davis Phinney Foundation to bring this incredible program aimed at reducing the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Don’t wait, spots are filling up quickly! Talking About Dying Matters Please do share for Dying Matters
Dying Matters Awareness Week (6-12 May 2024), which is an opportunity for people to talk about death, dying and grief. This campaign is run by Hospice UK and is used to encourage people to communicate in whichever way works for them. It aims to create an open culture where we are comfortable to have conversations about death. The theme this year is ‘The way we talk about dying matters’, focusing on the language we use and conversations we have around death and dying, specifically between healthcare professionals and patients, their carers and families. In support of this, together with some of our partners, we have produced a short video featuring professionals from a range of roles in palliative and end of life care, to get their views on why the way we talk about dying matters and how to open conversations about death and dying. Please take the time to watch the video at Insert video link. https://lnkd.in/ew6q7tgX
