Lucy: Probably Nourishing Hope. They started a new thing where they give me labels to write on. I can say things like “Enjoy your food!” or “Have a good day!” and stick it on the boxes of food. It makes me feel happy seeing the people that I’m delivering them to. Kiran: For this particular project, we go to Nourishing Hope, and they give you a list of people. Then, you load up your car with boxes of groceries and deliver them to their homes. Lucy’s always writing inspiring notes on the boxes for people. Q: What have you learned through your experiences as a volunteer? Kiran: Volunteering has always been important to me because it builds community. I think everybody in this world is connected to one another, and I see that on a deeper level when I see our impact on people who really need it. We all need help at some point in our lives in varying degrees. It’s been really special for me to be able to see that in my kids. When they were five, they didn’t understand the impact they were making as much as they do now. We recently conducted a workshop for our non-profit community to help them make the most of the upcoming season of giving. In this session, with Mihika Chanchani from Giving Tuesday India , we talked about why campaigns are a must to leverage this time effectively because when generosity is in the air, you have to harness it. And it all starts with nailing your goals. Here’s a quick recap of what our attendees took away from the session: 1. Get SMART with Your Goals: Sure, everyone sets goals, but a SMART goal (Specific, Measurable, Aspirational, Relevant, Time-bound) is what can make or break your campaign. Instead of just “raising funds,” think: “₹5 lakhs for 200 school kits by December 3rd.” What, Why, and By When? That’s a smart goal. 2. Have a story that sticks: You’ve only got 4.2 seconds to grab someone’s attention (yes, that’s how fast we scroll these days), so your campaign needs to stand out. An effective title, eye-catching visuals, and a message that resonates are key. Keep it simple but make it leave an impact, and the key to doing that is to make sure it conveys these 4 things- Who are you helping? How are you helping them? How many people are you helping? And where is your project based? 3. Make your Network Count: Turns out, you don’t have to do it alone! Your biggest supporters are already around you. Tap into, and leverage your existing community and watch your goal go from an idea to reality. The right goal can turn supporters into storytellers! Missed this session and need more insights?
