ICYMI: The importance of hiring the right project manager cannot be overstated enough, especially in the context of new home building projects in Jamaica. Whenever senior managers are asked to identify outstanding project managers, they almost always have a hard time doing so. What’s most concerning about this is that almost £2 trillion pounds are spent on these projects across the globe, according to Gartner.... https://lnkd.in/eg94tsrj #jamaicarealestate #jamaicahomes #PropertyforsaleinJamaica

Exploring the contrasts between being a facilities maintenance engineer in a Telecom company and an Engineering Manager in a hotel is eye-opening. While both roles focus on ensuring operational efficiency, they come with distinct challenges. Telecom demands agility to manage complex infrastructure, while hospitality prioritizes guest satisfaction and safety. In Telecom, there's more time for planning as all activities must be authorised, whereas the hotel industry is a hectic environment where quick decision-making is crucial, especially in a highly occupied hotel. Each requires a diverse skill set, from technical prowess to team leadership. Understanding these differences sheds light on the diverse paths within the engineering field and underscores the importance of adapting skills to unique industry demands. #FacilitiesManagement #EngineeringLeadership

In a hotel setup, the Engineering department can face several bottlenecks that impact its efficiency and effectiveness. I thought it wise to share some of the common ones from my experience : 1. Aging Infrastructure: Older facilities may require frequent repairs and upgrades, leading to increased maintenance costs and downtime. 2. Resource Constraints: Limited staff or inadequate training can lead to delays in addressing maintenance issues and implementing preventive measures. 3. Budget Limitations: Tight budgets can restrict the ability to perform necessary repairs or upgrades, impacting the overall condition of the hotel. 4. Inventory Management: Poor inventory control of spare parts and tools can lead to delays in repairs and increased operational disruptions. 5. Communication Issues: Lack of effective communication between the Engineering department and other hotel departments can lead to misunderstandings and delays in addressing facility issues. 6. Vendor and Contractor Management: Challenges in coordinating with external vendors and contractors, including delays or subpar service, can impact the timely completion of repairs and projects. 7. Emergency Response: Inadequate emergency preparedness or response plans can lead to extended downtimes and disruptions during critical incidents. 8. Technological Integration: Difficulty in integrating new technologies or managing outdated systems can lead to inefficiencies and higher maintenance requirements. 9. Regulatory Compliance: Keeping up with changing safety and environmental regulations can be challenging and time-consuming, potentially leading to compliance issues. 10. Guest Expectations: High guest expectations for immediate resolution of facility issues can place additional pressure on the Engineering team, especially during peak periods. Addressing these bottlenecks often involves improving planning and resource management, enhancing communication and coordination, and investing in staff training and technology upgrades. Hotel Engineers, let us keep the conversation going #NAHLE
