Did you know that picking March as your retirement month will result in you getting more money in your pension per year? This is because of the way COLA is calculated and divided up into FY quarters. March has been historically shown as the best month in the best quarter to take advantage of COLA adjustments. Leaders, stop shooting from the hip about the Blended Retirement System! Get Educated! Today, I got hit with many posts regarding the Uniformed Services Blended Retirement System (#BRS). There is a lot of misunderstanding among the services and the #Veteran population. All new #Servicemembers are automatically enrolled in the BRS. The election to stay in the 50% High 3 legacy retirement and opt into BRS has long expired. To get spun up on the nearly decade-old retirement plan, flip through the BRS info sheets. I strongly advise contacting a financial planner through the Military OneSource or Military Financial Advisors Association when it’s time to make elections on continuation pay and the lump sum option to ensure the extra funds are allocated to meet your financial goals. A straightforward military saying has guided me well throughout my career: I may not have the answer to your question, but I can provide a reference or connect you with someone who does. #FinancialReadiness #Retirement #Pension #Service #Military #Leadership

There are 4 decisions that the DOD makes for you while you are on Active Duty: Tricare, Dental & Vision, Survivor Benefits, and SGLI. As you retire, you have to make your own decisions about whether to keep these programs or find alternatives. And some of these decisions can't be made until AFTER you have officially retired. #militaryretirement #militarybenefits #veteransbenefits

Start early. Retire a millionaire. Military retirement benefits are outstanding but you have got to take full advantage of compounding, time and (not covered in this calculator) the DoD match for BRS. In honor of MilMoneyCon here’s a demo of Advantage’s “Why TSP?” slide calculator for financial readiness/ retirement readiness. My favorite part is side 2, where we show the Cost of Delay —what would delaying contributions by ONE year cost you? Compounding can either be your best weapon or the hardest lesson to learn. When life happens: Navigating a military retirement with confidence "It’s a familiar story: Soldiers retire from the Army and begin new lives as civilians, only to find that the transition isn’t quite what they expected. It’s an exciting time full of possibilities, but as service members try to start fresh, they can also face new challenges." If military retirement is just over the horizon for you -- and by just over the horizon, I mean "3 years from now" -- you need to know who will help you navigate your retirement. I'm not talking about TAP here -- everyone knows about TAP. There is way more than TAP. Learn about your available resources now . . . while you have time. It's what you do at the beginning of retirement planning. The quote above opens an article written by the DOD Office of Financial Readiness in #ChangeofMission, the Army's retirement planning newsletter -- two resources you may not be familiar with. The #FINRED article give a one-page overview of who will help you plan your military retirement, complete with links to them. It's a 2-minute read. It's a worthy investment in your future. FINRED supports the financial education of all DOD service members and their families. At the end of this article is a list of the FINRED social media platforms and their website (https://lnkd.in/emYVXMKU). Read the article or download the Change of Mission PDF from the Army's Soldier for Life website -- it's open to all military and their families at https://lnkd.in/ghMMXHj. #soldierforlife #retirementplanning #military

📢 Military retirement reform needed! #AUME, a member association of EUROMIL, is calling for reforms in military #retirement benefits in #Spain. Current reduction coefficients don't fairly account for the demanding conditions faced by military personnel. AUME is advocating for a system that accurately reflects the hardships of military life, ensuring fair and equitable retirement benefits for all service members. #WorkersInUniform #EqualRights https://lnkd.in/ePvzz4iD
