The GB Energy Bill goes back to Parliament next week and now is a great time to lobby your MP to support it. The Bill as drafted does not explicitly support the CE sector. The key action we are seeking is support from the UK Government for regulatory change, in particular, the removal of barriers to enable local energy markets to operate. Power for People are lobbying UK Gov on our behalf - for those of you wishing to support their lobbying action or to find out how to take action and write to your MP go to https://lnkd.in/eFQBDn5y

They have already been told how to reduce heating bills but never listen! https://lnkd.in/e7wD7nR2 Ed Miliband MP Miatta Fahnbulleh MP Jeremy Pocklington Jonathan Brearley Energy Select committee They have all been told many times how to reduce people’s heating bills with our brilliant infrared heating. www.heat4all.at What is it about MPs and civil servants who do not listen when an answer has been found to solve a massive problem of huge heating bills? Why are they so tin headed and unable to comprehend? We have been reducing heating bills for the last three years from £2000 to £430 a saving of over £1500 a year every year. A £300 saving by 2030 is a joke when it is possible to save 4 times that right now! If Ed Miliband would throw away his dogma and listen, we can help save millions of people massive amounts on their heating bills. I have said that I am prepared to bring together all the quality infrared manufacturers across Europe to supply what is necessary to achieve massive savings in heating bills. I only need the say so from government and I will do so. https://lnkd.in/eiKfDsGc

Latest blog is on the complex and increasingly vexed debate around whether the UK electricity market should switch to a system of zonal pricing or not. It hasn't got much attention outside of energy wonk circles in recent months, but it is an absolutely crucial decision for the clean energy transition and Labour's political prospects at the next election. The government needs not only deliver on its clean power by 2030 target, it also needs to ensure the UK's genuinely high energy prices start to come down. There is a fierce debate over how best to achieve this and whether a radical shake up of the rules governing the market is needed or whether more incremental reforms offer the lower risk option. But whatever the government decides it needs to demonstrate that it can boost investment in clean energy infrastructure and drastically reduce the role of fossil gas in setting wholesale power prices. And it needs to do so quickly. https://lnkd.in/etTccnzP

This election was decisive for the green agenda. Net zero was not a wedge issue and there was no culture war on it. Green growth was number 2 of Labour's pledges and they didn't row back on key net zero commitments. Voters repeatedly back green policies. They know that renewables are not only key to combating climate change, but are cheaper and more secure. And who wants kids, old people, indeed anyone to breathe in the particulates from burning fossil fuels? We now need more societal stakeholders and media figures to understand how popular this is, and cut down on the manufactured nonsense stories about EVs and heat pumps. The energy transition will be key to Britain's economic future. Investment will deliver jobs, growth and government income now - and deliver cheaper more secure energy for households and industry as it's deployed. Without rapid progress, companies will invest overseas - not just energy infrastructure, but data centres and energy intensive industries will locate in countries where clean cheap electricity is rapidly available. As well as dealing with the bureaucracies for building stuff, we desperately need locational pricing so consumers and business benefit from cheaper power, and price signals help us invest in the right places. With this, every region would be cheaper than today and Scotland would have the cheapest power in Europe. With rapid reform of planning, grid bureaucracy and energy markets, companies can work with the government to deliver.
I think we all saw this election result coming but I did not expect to see Greg Jackson on the BBC this morning - a welcome surprise! In Greg's words, there are £100s of Billions waiting to be invested in the UK Renewble Energy market. His advice to the new government? Let's get on with it!

With the first Budget for the new UK Government due tomorrow, all eyes in our sector will be on the policies and changes brought in that impact the green economy and all those working within it. We’ve summarised the Energy Saving Trust's thoughts on what is expected and hoped for in tomorrow’s announcement, as well as outlining what we, at Thermly, would support. Specifically: ▶ The considered rebalancing of electricity and gas pricing, with appropriate protections or support for those fuel-poor households most impacted by that process ▶ The easing or removal of planning restrictions on the retrofitting of properties to support the installation of greener technology (solar, heat pumps etc) ▶ A long term guarantee for the continuation of support for the green economy Have a read of our article here: https://lnkd.in/e3ZA5Rnr #UKEconomy #AutumnBudget #Budget #UKGovernment #greenenergy #greeneconomy #EnergySavingsTrust

With all the challenges we have in Australia right now, it's disheartening to see that most of the discussion on the budget is around a $300 energy rebate. We aren't debating the big challenges of our time or big ideas to face those challenges but rather a $300 electricity rebate. There is just so much wrong with the media and the political discourse in this country and the partisan nature of the political system. I have no ideas on how to fix it and I do understand change is hard, but surely we are better than this? #$300rebate #fedberalbudget2024
