🏆👏 Closing off the Social Entrepreneurship Workshop, ISS students have come on top taking both first and second prize at the social enterprise competition! It doesn't end there, they were also invited to present in front of WorldStartup and attend a one-year mentorship programme with the Changemaker Platform. 🥥🍄🗑 The wining group of ISS MA students presented their plan to use coconut waste to grow organic mushrooms in Ghana. The enterprise aims to create income, reuse waste and produce healthy food for a population in need. Recently Attended the two-day National Seminar on Social Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, and Empowerment: Indian Experiences and Global Outreach, sponsored by ICCSSR, New Delhi, and organized by the Centre for Social and Policy Research at Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, on June 21-22, 2024, was an incredibly enriching experience. The seminar consisted of five insightful sessions featuring esteemed experts and practitioners in the field of social entrepreneurship and sustainability. Among the notable resource persons were Dr. Archana Singh from TISS, Saji Varghese, founder of Sunbird Straws, and Mr. Sanju Soman, CEO and founder of Sustera Foundation. Key learnings and takeaways from the seminar included: 1. Environmental Sustainability: Gained insights into various sustainable practices and initiatives aimed at preserving the environment. 2. Success Stories of Social Entrepreneurship: Heard inspiring stories like that of Sunbird Straws, which makes eco-friendly straws, pens made from dried coconut leaves, and sustainable notebooks and UBTea, app supporting the street tea vendors. 3. Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development: Learned about innovative ventures such as UBTea and the Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development program, which are driving social change. 4. Risk Factors in Social Entrepreneurship: Discussed the challenges and risks associated with social entrepreneurship, offering a realistic view of the field. 5. Social Stock Exchange: Explored the concept and potential of social stock exchanges as a platform to support and scale social enterprises. India has secured the second position among 49 economies globally in the National Entrepreneurship Context Index (NECI), according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2023/2024 Report. The report, based on assessments by experts in India, evaluates countries on 13 Entrepreneurship Framework Conditions (EFCs).
