"Art is supposed to make you feel things, and come away thinking about the world a little differently. What better way to transmit a political message? The artists in the show communicate their point of view through beauty and craftsmanship. Good art may or may not be political, but this political art certainly is good." Read the New Haven Independent's full review of "Everything is Political" below, and check out the collection rotation while it's on view through mid-November!

My solo exhibition "Propositions for dis-order" at THK Gallery is up until the 26th of October, 2024. The work engages problems of money (and Blackness), speculation, financial abstractions, time (and risk), (the violence of) value in the context of racial slavery. This body of work turns towards systems and games to consider the depths of the temporal dimension and ontological terror of anti-Blackness. Through strategies such as repetition, fragmentation, seriality and motion, among others, the project opens a space for a critique of systems of knowledge production, history and memory. https://lnkd.in/d969txXm

Volume 11 is coming soon, here’s the editorial for this issue: "Everything changes, and we at NNC Gallery evolve over time, just like our projects. Our magazine is also undergoing a transformation. Starting with this issue, we will introduce new sections. The first will be a column dedicated to advice for artists: our experience and desire to provide concrete support have led us to create a space for this purpose. It will be a sort of coaching journey, aimed at teaching artists how to navigate the era of the web, mass art, and new collectors. What artists are looking for today, perhaps even before exhibitions, are collectors. For centuries, the art market was controlled by a small circle that decided who could be sold and who couldn't. Today, things have changed, but the selection process is still very rigorous. However, this is not the only issue. Moving away from traditional paths has led to the formation of prejudices, urban legends, and insecurities, which often cause talented artists to suffer from what is commonly known as 'imposter syndrome,' thereby sabotaging their own progress. For these reasons, we decided to focus on this aspect and offer our contribution. There are many other new developments in the pipeline, which we will unveil gradually in the upcoming issues. In this issue, we present some of the artists from the collectives we have been following for many years and continue to promote, helping them reach a wider audience. You will also find this month’s featured artist, the special guest, along with the winners of the January 2024 challenge, as well as the selected artists who accepted or declined our challenge. We hope you enjoy reading our magazine/catalog and that you can fully appreciate the contemporary art of these years!" Fringe's artwork can indeed be considered an investment for several reasons: Growing Recognition: Fringe is gaining recognition in the art world, which can lead to increased demand for their pieces over time. Unique Style: Fringe's unique blend of whimsical imagery and deep themes sets his work apart, making it appealing to collectors seeking distinctive artworks. Limited Availability: As Fringe's popularity grows, their artworks may become more limited in availability, contributing to potential value appreciation. Art Market Trends: Investing in emerging artists like Fringe can align with current trends in the art market, where collectors are often interested in new and innovative artistic voices. Potential for Future Appreciation: If Fringe continues to create compelling and sought-after artworks, his pieces may appreciate in value over time. www.anonymousf.com #fringe #fringetheartist

Claudia Hart's "Ghost Paintings: The Armory Women », a solo presentation at the Armory Show 2024 for Patrick Mikhail Gallery, was a winning proposition, confronting issues of value and cultural reevaluation, and particularly highlighting the historical invisibility of women in art. By reimagining and reviving the work of seven forgotten female painters from the 1913 original Armory Show, Hart brought their contributions back into the spotlight. As an appraiser, I am particularly fascinated by how Hart’s work subtly exposes the power structures that have shaped art history, highlighting the market’s significant role in determining which artists are remembered or forgotten. By revisiting the works of these overlooked women, Hart not only challenges their historical erasure but also underscores the market’s influence in the creation of value, bringing to light critical intersections of memory, visibility, and speculation—key areas of focus in my appraisal practice. It also involved innovative means of production as Hart used a data-driven approach and simulations, blending the digital and hand-painted elements. It goes to show how contemporary art can and should transcend categories. This creates a new space for evaluating historical significance and market potential.

4moThe pieces selected for this article were some of the best ones. The exhibition felt timid and many of the pieces were a stretch and loosely tied. Labeling was unreliable in some ways, for instance, some pieces seemed so out of context that I had to go to the label to make sense. Other pieces I wanted to learn more so I went to the label, which provided nothing. Could’ve been better, and that Georgia O’Keefe piece, please add a label on the history and context as I am sure many people have never seen that O’Keefe which is a poster that was part of an environmental poster series, that included also works by other artists (like Lichtenstein).
