Good, net neutrality is a solution looking for a problem.

Very busy week. From FTC's banning noncompetes, the Department of Transportation rules on cash refunds for airline passengers, to now the FCC restoring net neutrality rules. I'd say it is a good time to be an attorney whether it be a transactional and compliance attorney advising businesses on what new rules mean for their contracts, compliance, etc. ... and litigators who will either challenge the rules against the federal government or IF the laws go into effect enforcing the rules against violators. Yeah, so there is always a lag time between announcing and publishing a rule, it going into effect, and sometimes the additional effect of stakeholders challenging a new rule. I know, as a small-business owner, it is fun keep tracking of all this info, yeah? I also, as a cynical politico, find it amusing that all these new rules are getting announced before summer arrives ... you know, prime campaigning time. https://lnkd.in/ggmSs8yY

A US appeals court has blocked the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) reinstatement of net neutrality rules, saying broadband providers are likely to succeed in a legal challenge. The FCC had voted to reassume regulatory oversight of broadband internet and reinstate open internet rules adopted in 2015, but the court temporarily blocked the rules and scheduled oral arguments for late October or early November. Net neutrality rules require internet service providers to treat internet data and users equally, rather than restricting access, slowing speeds, or blocking content for certain users. The rules also forbid special arrangements in which ISPs give improved network speeds or access to favored users, and bar internet service providers from blocking or slowing down traffic to certain websites. Still working on dual queue low latency networking trials in Comcast's Xfinity Internet network - which has been fun. 🙂 With the FCC's net neutrality rule making coming to a close soon, I found it really interesting to note that our field trial was noted in the order - in Section 514, footnote 2030.
