Why choose a small independent financial planner over a big corporate firm? Katherine Waller nails it on our latest episode of The Century Plan. Financial planning is a deeply personal journey—your advice should be shaped by your unique circumstances and the goals you want to achieve. It's not just about answering questions; it's about a meaningful, ongoing dialogue that evolves as your life changes. This kind of tailored experience comes from an adviser who’s taken the time, through years of working with different clients, to truly listen and understand. A good financial adviser doesn’t mould you to fit a product. Instead, they guide you based on your specific needs, sometimes even advising you to do nothing if that’s what's right. The real value lies in the advice, not in selling a product. If your adviser doesn’t know your family, your hopes, fears, hobbies, and passions—you're working with the wrong person. What separates financial planning from financial advice (in my opinion) is the former puts the client and their purpose, vision, however you want to describe it, and places that at the centre of the conversation. The planning ensures the money works with that goal in mind. Advice doesn't necessarily get to the heart of what the money is for, and may only focus on fulfilling this year's ISA or pension contributions to get the tax breaks. Our conversation with Katherine Waller explains why understanding a client's purpose/visions/values is vital to help them achieve their long term goals.

Do you love it when a plan comes together? Growing up, “The A-Team" was one of my favorite shows. In case you're unfamiliar with it, each week, a crew of misfit, former 'soldiers of fortune' would get involved in some crazy hijinks trying to help someone each week. No matter how chaotic things got, however, it always seemed to workout for them. Each episode ended with Hannibal’s (the leader) iconic line: “I love it when a plan comes together.” It got me thinking—financial planning is a lot like an “A-Team” mission. The success lies in the plan and the process, not just in the tools you have at your disposal. When we get started with new clients, many want begin with questions about financial products and strategies. But when I ask, “Do you have a clear plan?” there’s often silence. And that’s where we need to start. Here’s the thing: ↳A thoughtful financial plan is your roadmap, just like an “A-Team” mission plan. It sets your goals and milestones. And once that plan is in place, a defined process ensures you stay on track—even when life throws a curveball. Think of products as the tools that help execute the plan... not the plan itself. So, as we kick off another week, take a moment to think about your financial journey. » Do you have a clear plan and a process to achieve your goals, or are you diving in without a strategy? 👇 Comment below with your thoughts—I’d love to hear them! ──── I'm Jeffery, your wealth advisor specializing in lawyers’ financial success. 🔗 Let’s connect for a Virtual Coffee Chat ☕️ to create your plan to become a Wealthy Lawyer—just like Hannibal, we’ll make sure your plan comes together!
