Hospitality chain Hilton Hotels & Resorts Hotels today announced the signing of a strategic licensing agreement (SLA) with Olive by Embassy to open 150 Spark by Hilton hotels across India over the next 10 years. Spark is a premium economy brand. This move marks the brand’s debut in the Asia Pacific market. Spark by Hilton initially launched in the US, followed by Canada and the UK. Next, Austria and Germany will witness the launch. "The best way for a hotel to get more direct bookings is to dynamically lower their price." That strategy might have been fine pre-COVID when OTAs didn't have their own loyalty clubs dangling cherries in front of your guests even when you set the lowest price. Or when virtual payments were not making it possible for OTAs to use their 18%+ commissions to undercut your BAR rate, and still win that booking. It's not viable in 2024. A focus on price as the lowest common denominator is only going to end badly. If your hotel is being recommended that as a strategy, know that it is not a strategy, it's more likely a product goal! HOTEL MARKET UPDATE SEP/24 👉 RevPAR increased significantly in Stockholm in July compared to the same month in 2023, while it sharply decreased in Gothenburg. 👉 The hotel market statistics for Sweden in July 2024 were practically identical to July 2023 for the main key metrics. The number of rooms sold increased by almost 2 percent while occupancy rate, ADR and RevPAR remained the same. 👉 However, we saw larger variations among the 25 largest hotel municipalities in Sweden. Gothenburg for example saw a 2.1 percent increase in the number of rooms sold despite the fact that there were no concerts at Ullevi. Stockholm and neighboring municipality Solna saw single-digit increases in the number of rooms sold and occupancy rate and larger increases in ADR and RevPAR. 👉 Furthermore, none of the Nordic countries and capitals saw a decrease in any of the main key metrics compared to July 2023, nor were there any significant increases. 👉 Please read the full report here: https://buff.ly/3ZlMa0n #annordia #hotels #markettrends

Minimum Room Rates a needed market push: Hiran Cooray Jetwing Hotels Chief Hiran Cooray defended the Minimum Room Rates (MRR) as a necessary market push under the current environment for Colombo City hotels to return to profitability while increasing earning capacity for  their employees. “You try to market a hotel and see, it’s not easy. People don’t have the confidence, and when there is fear, you don’t necessarily go out and sell at a higher price. That’s why it’s necessary for someone to come and push it up. Finally, hotels are making money, do you want to stop that? ” Cooray questioned.
