Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We want to take a moment first to acknowledge that Viive operates on the traditional lands of numerous First Nations peoples, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. But our responsibility to Canada’s First Nations goes beyond land acknowledgements. Aging & End of Life Planning is about imagining the future we want not just for ourselves, not just for our families, but for our wider communities. As we plan for the years ahead, we should each be thinking about how we can honour the Indigenous peoples who have lived here for generations, and who are still living here to this day. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LandAcknowledgement #AgingAndEndOfLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndOfLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning

🌊💧 Urgent Call to Action! 💧🌊 Did you know that several Indigenous communities across Canada are currently under boil advisories? Access to clean water is not just a luxury—it's a fundamental human right. Yet, far too many Indigenous people are denied this basic necessity. Water is life. It sustains us, nourishes us, and connects us to our environment and each other. But when communities are forced to boil water for safety, it's a stark reminder of systemic injustices and the ongoing impacts of colonialism. We must stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and take action to ensure access to clean, safe water for all. This is not just an Indigenous issue—it's a human rights issue. Let's raise our voices, advocate for change, and work towards a future where everyone has equal access to this essential resource. #CleanWaterForAll #IndigenousRights #HumanRights #SafeWater #DecolonizeWater #AdvocateForChange #IndigenousWaysofknowing&doing #WorldWaterDay

#LandBack is more than just a statement. It is a process, that varies so much from place-to-place, from Tribe-to-Tribe, and is important to unpack the process from ideation-to-implementation. "There is no blueprint for how to work towards land reparations and land returns to the #Indigenous people of this land. Every region, location, and tribe is different in the history of colonization, and in the political landscapes of Indigenous struggle and organizing. This brief guide is a compilation of some educational resources on colonialism, decolonization and solidarity, and links to some inspiring case studies and examples of settler descendants who have returned land to Indigenous people, as well as some initial questions/best practices to consider when beginning to think about working towards land repatriation to Indigenous people."

On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, we want to take a moment to recognize and acknowledge the importance of their identity, way of life, lands, territories, and natural resources. We also acknowledge the numerous challenges Indigenous peoples face in areas such as human rights, environmental protection, education, health, and economic and social development all over the world. In Canada, Indigenous communities still struggle to access clean water. In 2023, nearly thirty First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities were without safe drinking water. To this day, long-term advisories on the quality of public water systems in reserves remain in effect. This is why we support initiatives through the Indigenous Water Allyship program. Our goal is to improve living conditions in these communities by ensuring better access to essential resources and clean water. 💧 Together, let's take action and elevate Indigenous voices. 🧡 #IndigenousDay #IndigenousWaterAllyship #OneDrop

On the eve of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples , let's celebrate Peru's creation of the Sierra del Divisor Occidental Indigenous Reserve! This milestone protects isolated Indigenous communities, ensuring their rights and survival. The result of nearly two decades of advocacy by Indigenous organisations, this achievement is a testament to the resilience of these communities and the importance of protecting and preserving their ancestral territories. The next crucial step is the development of a comprehensive protection plan to safeguard these communities and their lands. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d3f4v5Vs

The Future of First Nation Lands: A Tug-of-War Between Control and Sovereignty Canada is at a pivotal moment—a moment that will define the future of First Nation lands, resources, and inherent rights. For generations, treaties—sacred agreements rooted in partnership and mutual respect—have been overshadowed by systems designed to control. Hidden frameworks, extractive policies, and broken promises have eroded trust, leaving First Nations to fight for what was theirs all along: sovereignty, stewardship, and the right to lead. Yet, amidst this tug-of-war, there is hope. Our nations are rising. Youth are reclaiming languages, traditions, and governance systems. Land Back movements and Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) are reshaping the future of stewardship. Court victories are affirming what has always been true: Indigenous sovereignty is not up for negotiation. But let’s be honest—this isn’t just about policy or economics. It’s about justice. It’s about honouring the spirit of treaties and the sacred relationship between people and the land. It’s about acknowledging the deep wounds of the past and choosing to walk a different path—a path of equity, trust, and collaboration. As leaders, this is our moment to act. • Are we perpetuating systems that extract and control, or are we ready to support true sovereignty? • How can we, working together as allies, partners, and decision-makers, amplify Indigenous leadership and create space for real change? The answers are already here. Our people hold the knowledge, vision, and leadership needed to create a future where humanity thrives in balance with the land. The question is: will we listen? Will we stand beside them? This is more than a tug-of-war; it’s a call to honour our shared humanity and responsibility. What steps can we take together to ensure this future is built on respect, trust, and shared purpose? #Leadership #IndigenousRights #Equity #Sustainability #LandBack #ReconciliACTION 🦅

June is National Indigenous History Month and today, June 21, is National Indigenous Peoples Day. This time of year, is set for us to honour and celebrate Indigenous heritage, history, cultures, and people. We built our strategy on the foundation of the Truth and Reconciliation Report, specifically Call to Action 92. The action calls for Canadian businesses to commit to consultation and informed consent of Indigenous peoples, providing equal job opportunities, training, education, and building an anti-racism workplace culture. We are committed to working with Nations across Canada to build critical infrastructure, educational facilities, and community spaces. While we are committed to investing in the communities we build in, helping to create wealth and capacity within Nations across Canada, we understand there is still much work to do to meet the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Report. June 21 is National Indigenous People’s Day, but every day is an opportunity for people and businesses to continue working towards reconciliation. 🌞 Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the rich culture, heritage, and contributions of Indigenous communities across Canada. For generations, Indigenous groups have celebrated this day, coinciding with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. This significant day, originally proclaimed as National Aboriginal Day in 1996 by then Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, has evolved through the years thanks to the tireless advocacy of Indigenous leaders and communities. From the Assembly of First Nations' call for a National Aboriginal Solidarity Day in 1982 to the renaming as National Indigenous Peoples Day in 2017, this day stands as a testament to the enduring strength and vibrant cultures of Indigenous Peoples. At Project Reconciliation, we are deeply committed to economic reconciliation, fostering meaningful Indigenous ownership and partnership in Canada's energy transition. Our mission aligns with the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, and we strive to uphold the TRC Calls to Action, ensuring that Indigenous voices are integral to shaping our collective future. 📚 We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to learn more about the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. Visit Government of Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples Day page to explore resources and discover how you can participate in community events and commemorations.
