We are grateful for the sweet treats from MARSHALLS LLC Canby, but even more enjoy the sweet satisfaction of helping businesses gain successful hires. In this case 74 successful hires!! A successful #HiringEvent shared by #BusinessServices representative Michelle Neuts. "When the Big 5 Sporting Goods store closed in Canby last year, it was a blow to the small suburb outside the Portland Metro area. When the town heard they were putting a new Marshall’s store there, it was the talk of the town! In early September 2024, the Worksource in Oregon City office got a visit from the corporate office of Marshall’s stores to discuss how we may be able to help them. They needed help recruiting for the new store, and a place to hold the interviews while the interior was being finished. So, in mid September, Michelle Neuts, Chris Weschler and Morgan James held a 3 day, all day hiring event for the new store, with the goal of hiring 70 people for the new location. With orientation scheduled for October 7th and opening scheduled for October 24th, it was a tight timeline to get the people needed scheduled, interviewed and background checks by orientation. The store opened on time, on October 24th with their 74 Worksource hires!" Great job Michelle, Chris and Morgan! If you are an #Employer with talent needs not yet working with #WorkSourceOregon, what are you waiting for?!? All of our services are prepaid through your payroll taxes so there are no additional costs to partnering with us and utilizing our expertise! Today let’s talk about transferable soft skills. My most recent and current employer, ProDrivers I’ve been at for going on 5.5 years. I don’t list that on here because the only recruiters that want to talk to me are trucking recruiters and a few technical recruiters/engineers have held that stigma against truckers. Now if I added every job I’ve had on here, it would show something like 50 roles. Valauable skills and experience as I’ve worked in 49 states of the USA. However such a high number I understand can be off putting as well. My first role was a summer gig when I was a teen putting letters into envelopes at Comtech Services, Inc. My next job was an associate at Taco Bell for a few months until the location shut down. My next job was JCPenney where I worked as an associate in Bed and Bath and Portrait Studio as a Photographer for 2+ years. I had a work study at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) as a janitor. I did seasonal at Target. I worked at Walmart twice, one round I ended up working at 8 different walmarts, and held dual roles safety manager and inventory manager. I’d have meetings with corporate about safety and had entire backrooms under my dominion, however I did this for minimum wage and in my area couldn’t even afford a Studio Apartment. During this period I was an Associate to Lead Photo Specialist at Walgreens and as many of my jobs knew I worked hard, I worked for minimum wage and all I could afford was a 3’x5’ space on my uncles floor. It was sufficient. I had a summer seasonal at Peter Pan Seafood Co., LLC for 3 years in City of Dillingham, Alaska. I’ve worked temp agencies like People Ready, Command Center and more. I worked at Denver Public Schools multiple times as a school bus driver and guest teacher. Now, the only reasons I got into trucking were to find college and to help me not sleep on floors anymore. I got to travel the nation but the whole intention was to get my degree and then get me some form of tech or design role. I began with two years at Werner Enterprises where I was an owner op and my truck became inoperable so I moved onto KeHE Distributors until I got laid off. Every company I mentioned I have respect for, there are other companies however where there’s been some discrepancies. I worked for one company that was bankrupting as I got hired which I didn’t know about, after my first check I never got paid again and worked for free driving cross country for the next few months. Another company had me work off duty 1/3 or my shift, etc. I’ve mentioned I’ve always strived to work in tech and design. From game development, fine arts and frontend web dev on the weekends for 20+ years. I’ve had a lot of different experiences. I have friends in the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Poland, Sourh Korea and more. I’ve been a Lead, Trainer, Tester, Mentor, Teacher, Trucker, Photographer, Forklift, Enumerator, Bus Driver, Customer Service Associate, Fine Artist, etc

District Manager: "What do you mean you're short staffed? What happened to your new hire?" Manager: "She never came back after her first day..." 1 in 10 c-store new hires never make it beyond their first two weeks of training. They "ghost" you. 👻 But why? What if one in ten customers that pulled in your parking lot stepped out their vehicle, walked in the front door, spun around and left? Just like a customer judges on first impressions, your new hires are judging you on their first two weeks of employment. If your training isn't engaging, you're giving employees every reason to vanish. 👻 #EmployeeDevelopment #HRInsights #TrainingTransformation #TrikeSolutions #StopTheGhosting

Partnership Bakkerij Dunselman x Fanployer If anyone thinks that hiring Software Engineers or Financial Professionals is challenging, try recruiting for Bakers😉 Once labeled a "dying profession" in the newspaper, Bakkerij Dunselman had to tackle the challenge of both recruiting and keeping their people on board! A new generation of management asked for a new direction. With their people as their first priority, we were able to create something unique together in the industry. Even though they were already known for their surprising online presence, quality products, and amazing experience in their stores, they hadn’t found that magic spark yet to deliver the same promise to their own employees. So, how did we help? We started with an EVP Design Program to discover what makes working at Bakkerij Dunselman unique, fun, and how it stands out from competitors. Based on the new EVP, we designed a candidate & employee strategy that truly WOWs. It's for sure that a live-training store, a brass band during anniversaries, and throwing cakes in each other's faces really gives that WOW experience 🎉 Not only did the number of applicants receive a boost of up to five(!) times, but the quality of the candidates also significantly improved. Many applicants mentioned the enjoyable candidate experience, and the word is spreading in the region. When opening a brand-new store, the recruitment of the team hasn’t even been a stress factor anymore. Bakkerij Dunselman is on its way to becoming the most enjoyable workplace in North Holland, and we are so thrilled to be part of their journey! #Partnership #BakkerijDunselman #EmployerBranding

As Director of Grocery Recruitment, a key part of my role is keeping a close eye on shifts in the employment market and the broader grocery industry. Over the past 15 years, I’ve never witnessed retailers face such a relentless wave of rising costs as we’ve seen in the last 18 months. I was grateful for the opportunity to discuss these pressing challenges on Newstalk last week with Shane Beatty. It’s crucial we continue highlighting these issues and their impact on the industry. Let’s keep the conversation going—what changes have you recently observed in the grocery sector?

The latest National Grocers Association research is a great reminder of just how crucial it is to keep our teams informed and inspired. From #grocery employees and beyond, no one should miss out on growth opportunities for lack of awareness, including the fact that grocery stores can be a source of stable, flexible and interesting work that also offer people the chance to grow. A huge part of why I love working for Advantage Solutions is that we see career growth as a lattice, not a ladder, so we strive to create new pathways for career mobility while connecting our corporate team more deeply with our frontline stars. This isn’t just a job for us. We care about what people do, but even more about what they can become. Recognising that acknowledging difference and adapting one's behaviour to accommodate and leverage difference are two different things is a fundamental for leaders who want to achieve great things. However, we humans are typically creatures of habit and adapting our behaviours does not always come easily. Our consulting practice helps leaders to grow their skill set and build high-performing teams.
People are at the heart of every decision we make here at Douglas Stuart Ltd. Recruitment is a human process. It becomes a human process when we prioritise the individuality, experiences, backgrounds, cultures and well-being of our candidates. When we acknowledge we are dealing with humans, both the hiring team and the candidates. Here are some key elements that contribute to making recruitment more human: Personal Interest / Connection Transparent Communication Empathy & Understanding Acknowledgement that we are all different and difference is good. If this is an approach that you believe in and practise, then contact us, join us, we want to meet you! #recruiting #executivesearch #douglasstuart

Many downtown leaders don't really have a handle on their competitive edge. They keep looking at their neighboring communities and trying to copy them. Well it just won't work. You're going to have to figure out your own shine, your own special value, to create a thriving place that is uniquely yours. And no, chasing a national retailer as an anchor when you have no foot traffic just won't do it. What are you trying that is making a difference? What is your community's competitive edge that is different from everyone else? Share it in the comments and let's learn from each other's experience. Link to article in first comment: Want more about why the big game recruitment for downtown just won't work? Check out: https://lnkd.in/dmictQC
