Kudos to our partners at Vitality for shedding light on such an important issue and helping to better understand the barriers to women’s participation in physical exercise. It was a privilege to attend the session this week and hear firsthand the experiences and insights from the diverse panel. They discussed the findings of the report and what steps we can all take to address these challenges. As a man, I recognise my privilege and, through my own experiences, have seen the barriers many of my family and friends face that align with the research. As a father of young girls, I am hopeful that if we all support the necessary changes, exercise and physical activity will become as accessible for women in the future as they are for men today. Here are a few key findings from the report that stood out to me: 𝟭. 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀. This needs to change. Group sports play a crucial role in supporting both mental and physical health. They often provide a rare opportunity to focus solely on the activity, free from the distractions of daily to-do lists. Increasing opportunities for women to participate in group sports is essential. 𝟮. 𝟰𝟭% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 We need to shift the narrative to emphasize the mental health benefits of physical activity. At parkrun, we see this every weekend: being active, outdoors, and with others has a profound impact not only on physical health but also on mental well-being. Being healthy isn’t just about weighing less—it’s about feeling good, inside and out. 𝟯. 𝟲𝟮% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲. This finding is disheartening, and it’s something I hear all too often from my teenage daughters. Fear of judgment—whether about ability or appearance—can be a significant barrier to participation. We need to foster a culture that encourages and supports women to prioritize their health, free from the pressure of external perceptions. These challenges frequently arise in conversations at parkrun, and we remain as committed as ever to ensuring that physical activity is accessible to everyone. Together, we can make meaningful progress in breaking down these barriers. Nick Read Alexa Murray Klare Iveson Amanda Dixon

MEN BREAKING STEREOTYPES: REDEFINING WOMEN’S BEAUTY AND STRENGTH. In pursuing a more inclusive and equitable world, we must acknowledge men's vital role in breaking stereotypes and redefining beauty and strength. Conventional notions about these values frequently confine both men and women to narrow definitions, limiting the opportunity for genuine self-expression and personal growth. Men, as supporters, can dismantle societal norms and change perceptions. By engaging in conversations that challenge presumed beauty standards, they actively contribute to a more diverse and accepting society. It's not just about encouraging women; it's about breaking down assumptions that hold everyone to unattainable standards. True empowerment entails appreciating the diversity women bring to the table. Beauty is more than just superficial standards; it is found in qualities like resilience, intelligence, and compassion. Strength is not only about physical power; it also includes the courage to resist expectations. Let's honour the MEN and WOMEN who challenge stereotypes and reinvent what it means to be both graceful and powerful. By redefining these concepts, we can create a more inclusive and empowered future. It's time to recognise each woman's uniqueness as her true definition of femininity and toughness. #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday2024 #menliftingwomen #menempoweringwomen #breakingstereotypes #redefiningbeauty #fbf #redefiningbeautyandstrength #womanempowerment #strengthindiversity #inclusiveculture #happywomensday

Just a reminder that everyone processes things differently. While women often need to be heard and held before finding solutions, men might lean towards problem-solving first. 💕 It’s all about understanding each other’s needs. We all have a blend of masculine and feminine energy, and that’s what makes us beautifully unique. Let’s honour each other’s ways of being.🌟 #EmotionalWellbeing #CommunicationMatters #SoulTherapywithChelle #MasculineAndFeminineEnergy #HealthyRelationships #CompassionateCommunication #BalancedEnergy #SupportEachOther

How to Get Women to Approach Us (Tip 1 of 5): Emotions are not always contagious, nor is everyone drawn to positivity. Nonetheless, being in a good state of mind generally attracts more bees. Having a pleasant and inviting internal state and not allowing others to shake it is one of several ways we can compel women to engage with us.
