We’ve all seen the #OpenToWork banners, but maybe LinkedIn should introduce a Ghosting banner for those recruiters who vanish on candidates like a phantom after they interview them. Ghosting in recruitment is the real horror story! If you’re leaving candidates stranded in the dark forever, like ghosts lost in the night, after rounds of interviews with no word, guess what? You might be rocking the Ghosting banner without even realizing it! How to tear down that Ghosting banner: (before LinkedIn locks you up in LinkedIn Prison!) Let’s talk facts: Recruitment isn’t some bone-chilling ghost hunt. It’s about sparking human connections that light the way, not vanishing and leaving candidates stuck in the shadows like lost souls. When candidates invest their time and hear nothing back, it’s more than just pulling a ghost act—it’s the death of a human connection that could have been brought to life. Let’s cut to the chase:  When candidates invest time and energy into the process and hear nothing, it’s more than just a missed opportunity—it’s a missed chance to be human. Nobody wants to serve time in the LinkedIn Ghosting Prison… So Guess what? #EndGhostingnow, because in the blink of an eye, the hunter becomes the haunted—treat candidates like your future depends on them because it might well! What a great thought! During my 40+ years in business, including time spent in the C-Suite and then deciding over a decade ago to throttle back because I didn’t like the persona so many corporations were taking on as well as not wanting to spend 50%+ of my year at 31,000 feet, I can tell you that I was was never overly impressed with search firms, even the retained big name ones that approached me. Why? Because it was always a transactional relationship. I truly am not trying to take a shot and this statement applied to roughly 80% of the encounters. I realize their time is their money. However, it is the exception versus the rule with most candidates that a search executive strives for a long term relationship. Just one (my) opinion. Every position I have held was the result of lifelong friends/colleagues approaching me to gauge my interest in an opportunity. They were usually not with the organization seeking candidates, but thought I should know about a position even if I was very happy at the time. When you have a close network of business friends and you throw opportunities back and forth between one another, you will never lack for employment. Newbie’s, put your phone down and build a face to face network.

Hi Heidi. Thank you for sharing. I've been campaigning for this, for a while, especially to industry leaders in Hospitality. All hoteliers are trained with a heart for customer interaction, which comes down to that 'personal touch' a follow up, that kind note, and care, going the extra mile beyond expectation. But in which department of the hotel & hotel organizations has this hospitality attitude gone lost, was it forfeited and was the standard phrase coined: If you do not hear from us in x weeks.... / Only xxx will be replied to. 🤔. Dare we say the H-word ?.

Great post and write up Heidi Breitenmoser Have tried that myself, find it highly unprofessional, and naturally won't be dealing with those agents again. In comparison, the best agent who ever placed me, would call me monthly to check how I was doing in the position, a long-lasting relationship was build. I strongly believe strong relationships are what's most beneficial for both parties. And in general, 'Be Kind' that's how you get the best out of everything. Thank you for another great post Heidi Breitenmoser #EndGhostingnow
