Today, on National Truth and Reconciliation Day, we honor the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities, remembering the survivors of residential schools and the children who never returned home. But reflection alone is not enough. True reconciliation requires action. We must commit to amplifying Indigenous voices, supporting Indigenous-led initiatives, and advocating for systemic change. This means holding ourselves accountable in our workplaces, communities, and governments to address the injustices that persist today. Let's educate ourselves, challenge the status quo, and actively participate in creating a more equitable future. Every step forward brings us closer to justice, healing, and a Canada that truly values and respects its Indigenous Peoples. #TruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousRights #ActForChange #ReconciliationInAction

Today in Canada we reflect and mourn the damage caused to First Nation’s communities. Residential schools are a tragic example on how imposing a culture over another can have devastating effects. We need mutual cultural understanding and collaboration. There is still a very long journey to achieve reconciliation with our First Nation’s communities, but reflecting on our past actions is a start.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. The following excerpt from the Government of Canada website explains the history behind the day: “Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.” #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #truthandreconciliation #kaci #canada #residentialschools #everychildmatters #orangeshirtday #indigenous #indigenouspeoples
