Relocating to a different country can present unique challenges for architects, regardless of our work experience or education level. As soon as we make the move, we are faced with a new reality that often involves adapting to unfamiliar practices, codes, and standards, as well as building new professional networks. This video explores the experiences of myself and hundreds of other architects who have moved to Western countries and faced these challenges. By sharing our insights, we aim to shed light on the realities of transitioning as an architect in a new country and offer guidance to others embarking on similar journeys. #architecture #architectureeducation #movingabroad https://lnkd.in/eRkPeNDq

The desire for architecture to be easy or democratic often leads to ignoring the need for expertise and structure. Pretending everyone is equally capable in architectural decision-making undermines both experienced architects and those who are learning.

If one of the challenges you face in your architectural practice is getting your team to be more proactive, you’re not unique. Too often team members sit back waiting for your instruction. What’s the result here? → too much of your time is taken up with instructing your team → the capabilities and capacity of the team is not being maximised → the team aren’t willing to risk making mistakes I’ve seen this happen time and time again and been giving some thought to how architects might address this conundrum. I’ve been developing a kit of parts workshop series specifically for architects, because I know architects love a kit of parts. I’m calling them The Culture of Practice, because that’s where change starts. They’ll consist of: ‣ core learning resources ‣ a live learning experience, otherwise know as the workshops ‣ group coaching sessions and they can be assembled into a program tailored to the specific needs of your practice. Each workshop is less than an hour commitment. Because I know how little time architects have. I’ll be announcing the details shortly.
