WVMC welcomes George Fox University nursing students to campus for an amazing learning experience! This is an experimental cohort is dividing students across Med-Surg, ICU, the Birthing Center, and our Women’s Clinic. Typically, cohorts are placed within a single unit, but in this arrangement, 3 students are in acute care settings (ICU and Med-Surg) and 3 are in obstetrics settings (OB, Women’s Clinic), with a rotation planned for the next term. This allows students two terms in the same facility, enabling students to build confidence, become familiar with our charting system, and hopefully become immersed in our hospital culture. The students have been appreciating the warm welcome, the range of experiences they’ve observed, and the hands-on skills they've been able to practice. Great Job Team! Shockingly, 79% of healthcare students reported musculoskeletal complaints! Are you in the field of health and safety, particularly within nursing or healthcare? - Musculoskeletal Complaints (MSCs) in Nursing Students: Ever wondered about the factors contributing to musculoskeletal complaints during nursing education? A recent study examined the associations between MSCs and various workplace characteristics. Shockingly, 79% of students reported experiencing MSCs, with factors like physical job demands and need for recovery significantly linked to these complaints (Reference: Kox et al., 2022). - Effective Interventions for Physical Health Problems: Starting a nursing career can be challenging, with high physical workloads posing significant health risks. But fear not! Another study reviewed interventions aimed at preventing physical health problems among novice nurses. While the evidence for intervention effectiveness is scarce and conflicting, this study highlights the need for high-quality research to safeguard the well-being of our healthcare workforce (Reference: Kox et al., 2020). These findings might prompt reflection on the health and safety practices within your industry and company. Are there parallels between the identified issues and your workplace? How can we ensure the physical well-being of our healthcare professionals? You can: - Dive into the two attached groundbreaking studies shedding light on crucial aspects of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among nursing students and novice nurses. - Check out our case study on the use of surgical robot https://lnkd.in/d-TrWjm2 - Read about our cooperation with Erasmus MC. https://lnkd.in/deJxaEje #HealthAndSafety #WorkplaceWellness #nursing #healthcare

The developing role of the Myasthenia Gravis Nurse Specialist Delighted to have worked with a terrific group of myasthenia and neuro-muscular nurse specialists and clinicians to develop our article on the developing role of the myasthenia gravis (MG) nurse specialist published in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, This article explores how the role of the MGNS has evolved and what development is required to address future needs of people with MG. Access to new treatments will undoubtably bring greater focus to the condition and the needs of this patient population. In the absence of research evidence about the role examples of how individual nurse specialists are managing their own patient cohorts and utilising a 'Sun Burst' schematic we highlight the crucial elements of the role based on the four areas of specialist nursing practice defined by Hamrick (1989): education advice and support, care coordination, specialist clinical skills and research. The authors feel that the provision of specialist care through the MGNS is a proficient, safety-critical model of care that is essential for the management of patients with the condition. Currently, care for people with MG is inequitable but there should be greater recognition of the condition and the value of specialist nurses in managing patients. At a minimum, all people with MG should be able to access a MGNS. Healthcare organisations and systems need to acknowledge this need and ensure that services are appropriately commissioned. https://lnkd.in/ejqQnYBB Reference Hamric AB, Spross JA. Together with Heidi Holmen, Anette Winger and Marianne Eg, Associate Professor in Children's Nursing, Claus Sixtus Jensen just published a novel study in @International Journal of Nursing Studies. Early detection of clinical changes in hospitalized children is crucial, yet it comes with challenges. This recent study delves into the role of nurses' knowledge, experience, and intuition in identifying signs of deterioration beyond just vital signs. Key Findings: 🔹 Nurses rely on experience and senses—like touch, and observing changes in breathing, circulation, and facial expressions. 🔹 Parents' insights into their child's behavior play a crucial role. 🔹 Nurses' "gut feeling" often guides care when vital signs are normal. The study underscores the importance of a holistic approach to pediatric assessments, where intuition and clinical experience complement objective measurements. This approach can lead to early detection and better outcomes for hospital children. 🚀 Exciting News! I’m thrilled to announce that my article, "Introducing a Resource to Support Neonatal Nurse Engagement in Clinical Research©," is now published in the Journal of Perinatal & Neonatal Nursing (Vol. 38, Issue 4)! Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gn2B64xX In this article, I introduce a unique tool designed to amplify neonatal nurses' voices in clinical research. It provides insights into the development and practical use of this resource, aiming to bridge the gap between NICU bedside expertise and clinical research, where nurses' perspectives are critical but often overlooked. 💡 Why This Matters: Neonatal drug development faces unique challenges. Trials frequently miss endpoints or yield unclear results, with limited collaboration among stakeholders. Neonatal nurses, central to NICU care, are often excluded from crucial trial design discussions—leading to protocol deviations, unnecessary study burdens, and even failed trials. This new resource offers practical prompts and discussion points to drive meaningful collaboration, empowering neonatal nurses to share their insights and helping researchers to understand the “unknown unknowns.” By engaging nurses’ expertise during protocol development, we can: - Identify appropriate study populations - Simplify procedures - Enhance enrollment - Improve overall trial outcomes 🔗 This free resource is also available on my LinkedIn profile for those committed to advancing neonatal research and bridging critical gaps in stakeholder collaboration. #NEONATALNURSE; #NICU; #NURSINGEDUCATION; #CLINICALRESEARCH; #PROTOCOL; #PROTOCOLCOMPLIANCE; #NEONATE

Imagine you having the heart of someone in your hands, in which you are the determinant of its life or death. Shortly, I will be talking about Cardiothoracic Nursing, which is a specialized field in nursing that focuses on the care of patients with cardiovascular and thoracic conditions such as congenital heart defects, coronary artery diseases, valvular heart defects, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), generally known as asthma, pericarditis, etc. Nurses in this field provide comprehensive care for patients undergoing cardiac procedures, assess patients undergoing cardiac procedures, teach patients about lifestyle modifications, and more. Are you thinking of specializing in Cardiothoracic nursing? All you need is to be a registered nurse with at least 2 years of experience. The course is offered at the Post Basic Cardiothoracic school in Enugu. As a Cardiothoracic nurse, these are areas you can explore: - Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - Cardiac Outpatient department - Cardiac Inpatient unit - Intensive care unit - Cardiac Catheterization unit. #nurseemerge #nursing #cardiothoracicnursing #cardiothoracic #nursingspecailties #nurses #nursingstudents #studentnurses #nursingfields
