One of the things I love about technology is how quickly it can transform how we do things, usually for the better. That's what Will Hero aims to do with DIY Last Will and Testaments, by making them more visual, interactive, and even fun with a visual first approach, scenario testing and AI assistant to help you anywhere, anytime. Hello everyone, I've been pondering Mark Twain's quote, 'There is no such thing as an original idea'. While we can turn old ideas into new, curious combinations, they will still remain the same pieces of colored glass that have been in use throughout the ages. Personally, I don't consider this a bad thing: as when an idea is fun to witness in action, being able to re-use it in a clever and new way allows what worked previously to be improved upon and given a new design, allowing readers to still gain entertainment from something that may seem cliche at first, but if written properly, can be adjusted to create something still fun to watch. I am intrigued by the story idea where a protagonist has to work with an antagonistic or villainous figure. Another popular saying is 'Seek the enemy of your enemy, and you will find a friend'. But what if that 'friend' isn't the most heroic of individuals? I feel that when written properly, a heroic individual allying with someone lower on the moral spectrum makes for an interesting game of intrigue, as both hero and villain must learn how to tolerate and work alongside each other, all with the hanging possibility of whether the villain might betray the hero eventually. When designing my own take on this idea with one of my earth dragons, Diamondback, I took inspiration from other forms of media where the idea was utilized: Such as the web series Hazbin Hotel, where protagonist Charlie is helped by Radio Demon Alastor. Alastor stands out with a fascinating design that incorporates a deer motif and a very toothy smile. A smile that he not only insists on wearing even in stressful situations as a sign of his own dominance, but one that is implied he literally can never drop. Though his animal motif is deer, his smile reminded me very much of another phrase 'never smile at a crocodile', giving me the idea to incorporate a crocodile motif into Diamondback, especially around her smile, which protagonist Wing notes as reminding her of 'crocodiles and politicians'. All of these characters - including my own - were spawned from the same idea: having a morally ambiguous character that your more heroic protagonist needs help from. But each of them flavor the idea with their own personalities and backstories to create fun and unique versions of the same idea. Will Diamondback be able to join the likes of these mysterious helpers with her own combination of wit, smiles and backstory? I supposed we'll find out when 'Of Scales and Fur - Wing' drops this October. Okay, character animation and hand-drawn techniques? Those were never my strong suit. Makes me extra appreciative of animators who make it look amazing, especially those who bring much-needed representation to the screen. I'm committed to exposing more, exceptional people of colour in the creative and tech industries. I'm so inspired by his studio’s work, and his commitment to creating hand drawn art and animation art featuring Black people on his insta. The studio’s work is DOPE.
