What if you could positively impact the lives of hundreds by reducing food waste? FoodBank makes it happen every day through an effective food-sharing system. This approach is based on the constant redistribution of resources, which helps to reduce food losses and provide stable support for the most vulnerable people in Ukraine. On World Food Day, we are launching the #FoodMonthAction, which focuses on food-sharing. Our goal is to collect 100,000 kilograms of food, water, and personal hygiene products together with donors at the FoodBank warehouse, funded by the #PepsiCoFoundation. We will deliver this aid to regions of Ukraine that have suffered the most from the war: Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Donetsk, and other areas where people face constant food insecurity. #Foodbank #FoodbankUkraine #WorldFoodDay #FoodMonthAction

The 2024 edition of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report presents updates on the food security and nutrition situation around the world. 24 July 2024: Rio de Janeiro – Around 733 million people faced hunger in 2023, equivalent to one in eleven people globally and one in five in Africa, according to the latest State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report published today by five United Nations specialized agencies. The annual report, launched this year in the context of the G20 Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty Task Force Ministerial Meeting in Brazil, warns that the world is falling significantly short of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, Zero Hunger, by 2030. The report shows that the world has been set back 15 years, with levels of undernourishment comparable to those in 2008-2009. https://lnkd.in/gNa_aeEY

Food wastage in the country can feed more than five million people. According to the Afghanistan National Food and Drug Administration, 15 to 20 percent of food is wasted in the country. Preventing food wastage in Afghanistan can provide meals for 5 to 8 million people. Based on available data, food wastage in the country is extremely high and this issue needs to be managed and regulated, with science and knowledge aiding this sector. Every year, around 60 to 70 tons of agricultural and food products are wasted in the country. Approximately 10 percent of the world's population suffers from hunger, and around 20 percent suffers from malnutrition. Nearly half of Afghanistan’s population is facing severe food shortages due to various factors such as climate change and economic challenges. Preventing food wastage could become part of the culture and help reduce poverty. There are four internationally recognized approaches for leftover food: 1. Reuse for consumption 2. consume again 3. Eat less 4. Turn it into compost So, let's share food and take steps towards a better environment. #FoodWaste #Foodwaste #FoodInsurity #Foodrevolution #Foodrecycling

Addressing Food Insecurity: Hope SA Foundation's Sustainable Food Program Food insecurity remains a significant challenge, particularly in impoverished areas across South Africa. Millions of individuals, including children and unemployed households, struggle to access nutritious meals daily, perpetuating cycles of poverty and hardship. Hope SA Foundation is tackling this issue head-on with its Sustainable Food Program, launched in 2020. This initiative serves a minimum of 400 hot meals daily to vulnerable populations, providing not just sustenance but also hope and support to those in need. Our program goes beyond mere meal provision. It aims to empower communities by promoting overall well-being and development. Through initiatives like food drives and distribution of food hampers, we foster a sense of community and solidarity, ensuring families have access to support when they need it most. The impact of the Sustainable Food Program is already evident. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, donors, and partners, thousands of individuals across South Africa now have regular access to nutritious meals. This initiative not only addresses immediate hunger but also lays the foundation for sustainable change and lasting social impact. Take Action: Join us in the fight against food insecurity! Your support can make a real difference. Visit www.Hopesa.org or reach out to enquiries@hopesa.org to learn more about how you can get involved and help ensure that no one in our community goes to bed hungry. #HopeSAFoundation #KeepHopeAlive #FoodSecurity #EndHunger #CommunitySupport #sustainabledevelopment

A new UN report shows that severe food insecurity in Brazil has fallen by a colossal 85%, meaning the country might be removed from the FAO Hunger Map. The report, produced jointly by the FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO, shows that severe food insecurity dropped from 8.5%, in 2020-2022 period, to 6.6%, in 2021-2023. This indicates a drop in the number of Brazilians facing severe food insecurity from 18.3 million to 14.3 million over that period. Unfortunately, there has been little progress at the global level: it is estimated that 733 million people worldwide experienced hunger in 2023, nearly the same number as reported in the 2022 edition, which was 735 million people.

Addressing South Africa's Growing Food Crisis In recent weeks, South Africa has been shaken by heartbreaking stories of food poisoning and tragic deaths in some of our most vulnerable communities. These events have highlighted the urgent need to address not only food security but also food safety—a critical yet often overlooked aspect of combating hunger in impoverished areas. At Food Sock Meals, we believe that no one should have to choose between a full stomach and their health. That's why our nutritious, convenient meals are professionally packed and tested for safety in Cape Town and Durban. Each meal is: ✅ Packed with essential nutrients, supporting physical and mental well-being. ✅ Tested for safety and hygiene, ensuring peace of mind for those who receive them. ✅ Designed to meet the needs of individuals and families, providing a lifeline to those facing hunger. As we confront this crisis, collaboration is key. By partnering with NGOs, schools, and community leaders, we’re not just distributing food—we’re restoring hope and dignity. The journey is long, but the impact of providing safe, nutritious meals is immediate and profound. Let’s work together to ensure that every meal served in our communities contributes to a healthier, safer, and brighter future for all South Africans. Together, we can turn the tide on hunger and tragedy. #FoodCrisis #SouthAfrica #FoodSockMeals #FoodSafety #CommunitySupport #NutritionMatters

If we stopped wasting so much food, we could feed everybody in the world. Read that again. Why? Because today is World Food Day, a day aimed at shining a light on the extent of food poverty around the world. It was created back in 1945 by the UN to eliminate poverty, malnutrition, hunger and here we are, 79 years later with 7.2 million adults experiencing food insecurity. According to the FAO.org website, “The world's farmers produce enough food to feed more than the global population yet, hunger persist.” So where’s it all going? Every year, 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted globally, which is the equivalent of one-third of all the food produced for human consumption. Shameful! Here at Bread and Butter, we try and get as much of surplus food as possible to redistribute to the people who need it, removing barriers to healthy, affordable food. Watch what a few of our members had to say about the impact our food clubs have made on their lives… In the past year, we saved over 7,000 tonnes of surplus food but we always need more. We now have 128 food clubs with even more opening before Christmas, and have over 85,000 members. Whilst it’s brilliant to grow and reach even more low income households, it’s also devastating that there is such a need in 2024. #worldfoodday #surplusfood #foodclubs #foodsecurityforall
